CamBlur7 adds blur to Camera app UI on iOS 7

While it is not the most groundbreaking jailbreak tweak on Cydia, CamBlur7 is a new package that works in unison with TransparentCameraBar to add a translucent blur effect to the top and bottom bar of the Camera app UI on iOS 7. The tweak has a number of options that are configurable through the Settings app for adjusting the blur level and hiding the blur in filter or video mode…

‘Moment’ lenses launch on Kickstarter, promise pro iPhone photography experience

Moment, a new clip-on camera lens attachment for the iPhone, iPad and other mobile devices, has launched on Kickstarter, with a pair of lenses selling for $50 a pop each. Much like Olloclip, the Moment's multi-element lens design promises to take your iPhone photography to the next level.

How?

By allowing for low-distortion imaging and minimal chromatic aberration, with easily swappable lenses coming in handy when you need to quickly switch from shooting a wide scene to capturing detailed closeups. And they certainly look beautiful...

iPhone 6 said to feature 8MP camera again with improved image stabilization

Although the iPhone 5s has only been out for about 4 months now, next-gen iPhone rumors are already ramping up. The handset, believed (for right now, anyway) to be called the iPhone 6, has been widely reported to feature a larger display and other improvements.

Today, a new report from China adds to the chatter by claiming that Apple's next smartphone should see some camera improvements such as enhanced optical image stabilization. It also calls for the handset to retain the current 8-megapixel sensor for its iSight camera...

CES 2014: Flir One case brings true thermal imaging to your iPhone 5/5s

Avid iPhone photography fans are always on the lookout for new ways of improving their snaps and photography skills to give their work an added edge.

Pitched as the world's first private thermal imager, the Flir One case slides right onto your iPhone 5 and lets you "see the heat wherever you go".

It slides onto your iPhone like an ordinary protective case and displays the infrared world on its screen.

We're talking true thermal imaging here, not the kinds of fake infrared effects you see in many photography apps on the App Store...

Apple reportedly acquires burst photo app-maker SnappyLabs

Apple has reportedly acquired app developer SnappyLabs, the one-man photo technology startup behind the app SnappyCam. For those unfamiliar with the title, it was a popular camera app that allowed users to take full-resolution pictures at 20 to 30 frames per second.

SnappyCam mysteriously disappeared from the App Store, shortly after founder John Papandriopoulos announced that he had achieved a breakthrough with “discrete cosine transform JPG science.” He essentially reinvented the JPG image format, and word has it Apple wanted in…

Starbucks now lets you use your iPhone’s camera to redeem Pick of the Week cards

Starbucks, a Seattle-based global coffee company and coffeehouse chain and Apple's longtime marketing partner, started offering 'Pick of the Week' promotion via its recently Passbook-enabled App Store app back in 2011. The tie-in allows Starbucks customers to download paid iOS applications for free as they sip on their beverage of choice.

The company has now upgraded its backend system to allow folks to scan these redemption codes using their iPhone's iSight camera, a feature Apple added to iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices as part of its iOS 7 software release in September 2013...

Camera+ 5.0 is out with iOS 7-style redesign, wallpaper composer, new tools and filters

If you're an iPhone photography fan and follow me here on iDownloadBlog, chances are you've by now figured out that Taptaptap's Camera+ is my go-to photography application for the iPhone and iPad.

After failing to jump on the initial iOS 7 app update bus, the team has finally pushed a major update for the iPhone and iPod touch edition that includes substantial iOS 7-makeover along with the flattened app icon and a bunch - and I really mean a bunch - of new tools and filters.

Google Wallet gets single sign-on, lets you add credit card via iDevice camera

Following a significant delay, the Internet giant Google finally released its free Wallet for iPhone app back in September 2013. But in bringing its troubled mobile payment service to Apple’s platform, Google left out some of the capabilities found in Wallet's Android counterpart, such as the ability to make in-store payments with the app (not surprising considering iPhones lack NFC). The company added a few new features via two recent updates and today the Wallet app has been refreshed with some new functionality.

For starters, you can now instantly sign on to Wallet if you use other iOS apps from Google. Google previously rolled out this rather useful feature to its popular iOS apps, allowing you to, say, just tap your Google Account already used in Chrome in order to log in to the Gmail iOS app.

Apple awarded patent for Lytro-like refocusable camera tech

A monster 600+ page Apple patent application surfaced yesterday, detailing some of the things it's been working on with Touch ID. It mentions using the sensor underneath the Home button as a trackpad, and even talks about embedding the sensor right into the iPhone's display.

Today, a new invention by Apple has popped up on the web, this time for a patent that it has already been awarded. It's called 'Digital camera including refocusable imaging mode adaptor,' and it details a camera that includes refocusing capabilities—similar to that of the Lytro...

How to add burst mode to the stock camera app in iOS 6

A recently released jailbreak tweak, called Burst Mode, allows users to continuously take photos with iOS 6's stock Camera app. It's not as feature rich as the burst mode found in iOS 7 for the 5s, but it's a nice compromise for jailbroken iOS 6 users.

Burst Mode allows you to take as many photos as you want using a simple tap and hold on the shutter button, or a press and hold on your iOS device's physical volume button. Along with its burst mode capabilities, the tweak features a nice array of bonus features to take advantage of as well. Have a look inside as we look at what makes this free jailbreak tweak tick.
