The iPhone Turns 4 Years Old Today

On January 9th of 2007, Steve Jobs unveiled the first ever Apple iPhone to the world. Adorned in his standard black-turtle-neck-and-blue-jeans attire, Jobs announced the new device to thousands of Macworld attendees.

The Apple CEO started off the epic keynote by saying the famous lines, "This is a day, I've been looking forward to for 2 and a half years. Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything..."

Apple to Ship 30m iPads, 17m Macs in 2011 Claims Analyst

Those analysts do just love to analyze, and once again we're faced with one such guesser expert and his estimates for Apple's iPad, iPhone and Mac sales as well as the big one - how much money will the boys in Cupertino rake in this year?

The analyst we're looking to this time is Needham and Company's Charlie Wolf, who believes both iPad and Mac sales will be higher than first anticipated, while iPhone sales will actually be lower than originally forecast...

iOS 5’s Hidden Twitter Functionality Hints at More to Come

Just before Apple's big iOS 5 reveal at WWDC a few weeks ago, rumors began circulating that Apple was planning to integrate Twitter right into the system. At the time we didn't know whether the rumors were true or not, let alone how deeply integrated it would eventually turn out to be.

When Steve Jobs and his band of merry men took to the stage at WWDC, we finally saw what Apple had in store for us, but despite iOS 5 largely hitting the spot we couldn't help but feel let down by the fabled Twitter integration, at least in its current form...

Why Apple Could be Releasing an iPhone Nano this Fall

The idea of an iPhone nano has been debated since the device's inception 4 years ago. Apple's conquest of the mp3 player market with multiple iPod models has had many folks wondering if Apple was going to do the same thing with their smartphone line.

While most people scoff at the idea of Apple producing a cheap version of the popular iPhone, Horace Dediu of asymco seems to think otherwise. Apparently, Apple has plenty of reasons to manufacture an iPhone "nano."

Apple Offers 7-Day Return Policy for Purchased Apps in Taiwan

Though the App Store is one of the best in the business, it certainly could stand a few changes. One of the refinements users have been calling for is the ability to take apps for a test spin.

The current policy calls for users to pay for applications before they get a chance to try them out. This isn't a huge deal with $0.99 applications, but you could potentially pay $20 or $30 for a program that ends up not working out...

Will Apple Drop Samsung for A6 Production in 2012?

After a number of recent squabbles with Samsung, it seems Apple may be looking to distance itself from the company and move production of its 'A6' ARM processor to another chipmaker.

In a report published today, Ars Technica cites "numerous sources in the semiconductor industry" who claim Apple is likely to approach Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to build the next-generation of its mobile processor in 2012 as the company aims to step away from its current partnerships with Samsung...

Are the iPhone 5 and 4S BOTH Coming in September?

If you've had enough of the next-generation iPhone rumors, you may want to skip over this post. As before any major Apple product launch, the rumor mill is working over time with everyone trying guess Apple's next move.

While most of the gossip aligns with a September launch, the hardware debate seems to ping pong back and forth. Some folks believe we'll see a major update to the iPhone line (iPhone 5), and some think it'll only incur minor changes (4S)...

Apple Stepped Up Their Game to Combat Jailbreaking in iOS 5

When Apple announced iOS 5 a few weeks ago, there was some speculation that its hundreds of new features would deter a lot of folks from jailbreaking . In fact, iOS 5 was thought by some to be a jailbreak killer.

While it doesn't look like the promise of new features has phased the jailbreak community, there are some things in iOS 5 that are troubling. The Dev Team recently posted a report on some things they are seeing in iOS 5 that are making them nervous...

Apple Stores Can Unlock AT&T iPhones at the Point of Sale

Earlier this month, Apple announced that it would finally be offering unlocked iPhone 4s in the U.S. Unlocking the iPhone has largely been a process of the jailbreak community for the past few years, so needless to say the news was surprising.

Since the announcement, a lot of folks have been wondering whether or not AT&T or Apple would be able to unlock previously owned devices. Well, 9to5Mac has just discovered that some Apple stores do indeed have the ability to unlock AT&T-branded iPhones...

Leaked AT&T Documents Hint at LTE-Flavored iPad

Last night, the 6-man hacking group known as LulzSec ended their 50 days of chaos with one last act of mischief. The team once again published confidential data recovered from their latest attack. One of the folders in the stolen archives is titled "AT&T."

In digging through the data, the folks over at iFans have come across some interesting information. The internal AT&T documents reveal that the carrier is planning to roll out their new LTE network in the first week of July, but that's not all...

New Cydia Tweak Will Allow Tweeting From Anywhere Inside iOS 5

When Apple announced iOS 5 during its WWDC 2011 keynote three weeks ago, one of the standout features we were all drawn to was the twitter integration.

Promising to tie Twitter right into the operating system, iOS 5 has the potential to do some pretty cool things with one of the world's favorite social networks, but, at least in the first two beta releases, iOS 5 doesn't seem to make the most of the possibilities. Currently, the only real part of iOS to use Twitter is the Photos app, which allows the tweeting of images direct from the app.

It looks great, and works just as expected while also offering the ability to geotag tweets on the fly...

iOS 5-Like Incoming Call Notifications Coming to Cydia

The last three weeks have been largely spent by developers writing new widgets that work with Apple's new Notification Center, part of iOS 5. We've seen so many widgets come out of the jailbreak community in the last 21 days that we can't imagine Apple not giving normal App Store developers access to Notification Center's widgets, too.

A rare tweak to be shown off that doesn't involve iOS 5's Notification Center promises to bring iOS 5-like roll-down notifications to incoming calls, making them appear and work just like other notifications do...
