Apple Already Approving Apps for iOS 5

iOS 5 is just around the corner for those of us without developer accounts, and Apple has already begun to approve apps with iOS 5 compatibility in the App Store.

Camera+ was the first app in the App Store to be updated with iOS 5 compatibility, followed by Mashable and several others. While apps are being updated for compatibility with iOS 5, no apps have been approved that are actually built on iOS 5 code.

Apple to Unveil 4G TD-LTE iPhone 5, According to China Mobile

After months of "being in talks" with China's largest carrier, China Mobile, Apple seems to have closed a deal with the carrier that includes distribution for the upcoming iPhone 5. On top of that, China Mobile is now saying that it has reached an agreement with Apple to bring an iPhone 5 with 4G speeds to its network.

The report doesn't directly imply that a 4G-equipped iPhone would release on China Mobile this Fall, and recent reports have said that a 4G iPhone won't be seen until at least 2012...

Another “Spy Photo” of the iPhone 5

You know Apple is about to launch a new product when spy photos of the device start surfacing in bunches. Last week 9to5Mac posted a blurry snapshot of a purposed iPhone 5 in the wild, but most folks wrote it off as a 3GS.

Today, MacRumors posted another foggy photo of what could be Apple's next smartphone. The image depicts a device that seems to match up with some of the rumors we've heard regarding the iPhone 5's design, and is believed to have been taken in the office of a French carrier...

BlackBerry the Smartphone of Choice for Teens in UK, iPhone for Adults

A new survey by OFCOM suggests that the iPhone is the smartphone of choice in the UK, with RIM's BlackBerry being the favorite of teenagers.

OFCOM spoke to 2073 adults and 521 teenagers in order to find out which smartphone they used, and Apple's iPhone was once again the handset to come up trumps. RIM's BlackBerry got a shot in the arm, with teenagers apparently preferring the Canadian firm's smartphones over the more touch-friendly competition...

Why We Could See a Retooled iPhone 4 This Fall

BGR picked up on some interesting comments made by Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities yesterday. In a note to investors, the analyst cited a report from Sohu.com claiming that Apple and China Telecom were putting the finishing touches on an iPhone 5 partnership.

We've known for quite some time that Apple was working on closing a deal with China's 3rd largest carrier, but we didn't know how soon it'd be finished. White told shareholders yesterday that China Telecom would have 2 iPhone models by October of this year — 2 very different models...

Apple Expected to Launch “iTunes Replay” Soon

Apple has been hard at work on their iTunes ecosystem over the last several weeks. They've enabled Automatic Downloads and added the ability to redownload previously purchased TV shows, and they don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

AppAdvice is reporting that they have been able to confirm that Apple is about to launch a new iTunes feature called iTunes Replay. The service will allow users to redownload purchased movies to multiple devices, and stream the video content via iCloud...

EA’s Founder Sees Apple’s Reign Coming to an End Soon

Apple is on an unbelievable run right now. It seems like the company has been on a hot streak ever since they unveiled the original iPod back in 2001. This can't possibly last forever, can it? What is it they say, all good things must come to an end?

But with $75 billion in the bank, and anticipation for the next Apple product stronger than ever, you'd think Apple's inevitable decline was still years away. That's not the case, according to Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins. He thinks Apple's epic run will come to an end in the next 24 months...

iCloud Pricing v.s. the Competition

I have to admit, Apple's iCloud service is pretty cool. Deep iOS integration, a cool web portal, and 5GB of free space. But what if you need more than just 5GB of cloud storage? The next step up is 10GB, and that'll run you $20 a year.

The plans go all the way up to $100 a year for 50GB (55GB with your free 5GB). That might seem like a lot for file storage, but it's on par with the competition. In fact, iCloud beats out the popular DropBox service in the bang-for-your-buck category...

Other Tablets Can’t Compete With the iPad’s “Design Efficiencies”

We've all been wondering why the plethora of other tablets out there haven't been selling as well as the iPad. Android tablets abound, and seemingly hopeful slates, like the Motorola Xoom, don't even come close to the iPad's sales.

Apparently, the magic is in the process. Apple's tight control over the iPad's hardware and software gives the iPad an unmatched advantage in "design efficiences" that other manufacturers can't copy — no matter how hard they try.

74% of Verizon Smartphone Users Say They’re Waiting on the iPhone 5

When the iPhone 4 finally launched on Verizon's network, it was expected to be a godsend. U.S. customers could finally choose a different carrier if they had issues with AT&T. The device was projected to sell more than 5 million units — and then it didn't. Verizon barely managed to sell half that.

So why were analysts so far off? My guess is that it was related to a misconception that a lot of AT&T customers were unhappy, but we're not. There is also a good possibility that a lot of folks decided to hold off in anticipation for a summer-unveiling of a new model. In fact, analyst Gene Munster thinks it's a real good possibility...

iPhone 5 Update to be Bigger than Expected

I can already see eyes rolling after reading the headline: "Great, another iPhone 5 rumor." If that's the case, then move along. Complaining that there's too much talk about the upcoming iPhone on an iPhone-focused website is like complaining there's too much chocolate in your chocolate milk.

However, if you are anxiously awaiting the device's impending launch, you'll likely be happy to hear this particular piece of gossip. A Sterne Agee analyst told investors this morning that the iPhone 5 won't be the "modest update" that a lot of folks are expecting...

iCloud.com Goes Live Featuring Mail, Contacts, Calendar and More in the Cloud

While we still don't know Apple's entire plan for the iCloud service, we have learned several things over the last few months. We know that iOS backups, documents, and media content can all be stored in the cloud.

We also know that each user is allotted 5 GB of free space and that the cloud is accessible from a browser. But outside of that we haven't heard too many other details, until now. Apple just made iCloud.com available and shined some light on the mysterious project...
