Apple Looking to Launch iOS-Powered TV Set This Fall?

Though the Apple TV2 is doing much better than its predecessor, ATV2 sales are anything but spectacular compared to Apple's other products. The device has been labeled by Apple as "just a hobby," but there is new evidence suggesting that the Cupertino company may be starting to get serious about taking over our living rooms.

Daily Tech is reporting that they have heard on good authority that Apple is looking to replace the Apple TV line this fall with an entirely new product. Their source, a former Apple executive, is claiming that soon we will be able to walk into an Apple store, and walk out with a TV set...

‘Banana TV’ Aspires to Turn Your Mac Into an Overweight Apple TV

As you may have figured out from its play on words, Banana TV is an app for the Mac that mimics some of Apple's $99 Apple TV functionality.

Banana TV is a client that runs on your Mac that transforms it into an AirPlay recipient. This means that when you tap the little AirPlay icon on your iPhone, you'll see the name of your Mac along with any other AirPlay enabled devices.

Fake Ra1nb0wRa1n iPhone Jailbreak Website Deemed Not the Real Deal

Getting confused from all of the Ra1n? There's BlackRa1n, LimeRa1n, PurpleRa1n, and the upcoming RubyRa1n. It's enough to confuse even the best meteorologist.

To add to the level of confusion, someone(s) impersonating renowed iPhone hacker GeoHot has released a site called Ra1nb0wRa1n with little to no fan fare.

The fact that it received hardly any pub before going live was the first thing that struck us as weird. The fact that the site is actually pointing to a Chinese website, is the real thing that sent up our red flags.

For the record, although the site's whois records feature Hotz's name and a New Jersey residence, Ra1nb0wRa1n does not appear to be associated with GeoHot in any way, shape, or form...

‘VideoLock’ Keeps Streaming Video While Your iPhone is Locked

If an Apple TV happens to be among your possessions, then chances are you're a big proponent of AirPlay -- Apple's highly pushed streaming technology.

AirPlay allows you to stream audio or video from your iPhone directly to your Apple TV device. For example, if you're watching a movie on your iPhone and you get tired of the eyestrain from staring at the 3.5 inch screen, you can instantly stream that video directly to your TV if it's hooked up to an Apple TV.

A big problem with AirPlay in its current form is that the streaming is halted when you lock your iPhone. VideoLock is a jailbreak tweak that sets out to eliminate this pesky problem...

More iOS 4.3 Beta Details, AirPlay Video for Apps, New Gestures

More information is trickling in regarding the new features packed into iOS 4.3 beta, and for fans of AirPlay, it looks like we have a winner.

As you're likely already aware of, Apple significantly gimped the functionality of AirPlay in their iOS 4.2.1 release, only allowing streaming from the iPod and YouTube apps. This led jailbreak developers to release tweaks like AllPlay and AirVideoEnabler to circumvent the lack of 3rd party app support.

The good news is that with iOS 4.3, these tweaks should no longer be necessary...

Apple Feeling Generous With Free iTunes Movie Rentals

With the recent release of AirPlay, Apple is working on locking down your Apple TV inhabited living rooms, and what better way to show off the technology than by offering users a freebie?

According to a report from 9 to 5 Mac, Apple is randomly sending out iTunes rental codes good for any one of the 8,000 plus movies available on the iTunes store. Of course this totally coincides with the fact that the Apple TV 2 operates on a rentals based model, so this may just be Apple wanting more users to give their service a trial run...
