Apple TV picks up Hallmark Card’s Feeln and A&E’s FYI channels

Apple is continuing to relentlessly add new content sources to the already crowded Apple TV Home screen with Tuesday's addition of Hallmark Card’s Feeln and A&E’s FYI network channels, as first reported by MacRumors editor Eric Slivka.

The $99 media-streaming device now includes on-demand shows and features on “contemporary lifestyle” topics from the FYI network as well as those by the streaming family movie channel Feeln, which has a nice selection of “family friendly movies, documentaries and short films”.

‘Apple Events’ channel now available on Apple TV

Apple TV owners will notice that the ‘Apple Events’ channel has returned to their main menu this morning with an invitation-matching icon. As with previous events, this channel will allow you to watch a live stream of today’s iPad keynote (here's hoping it goes better than last time).

Apple will also be streaming the event to its website, where users running Safari on OS X or iOS will be able to tune in. For those that are unable to watch live, Apple typically uploads a video of its event to its YouTube channel within 24 hours or so, or you can just follow along with us.

Latest iOS 8 beta enables HomeKit on Apple TV

The latest Apple TV Software Beta 2 which was seeded to developers yesterday alongside new iOS 8.1, Xcode and Yosemite betas enables support for HomeKit on the $99 media-streaming box, as first reported by AppleInsider.

In addition to HomeKit, the software includes support for Family Sharing and contains functions allowing developers to test AirPlay functionality with their iOS apps. Although HomeKit functionality was spotted in earlier Apple TV betas, Apple has removed the feature last month without an explanation.

Apple seeds new iOS 8.1, Apple TV and Xcode betas to developers

Merely a week following the first beta of what would become the major iOS 8.1 bug-fix update, the iPhone maker on Tuesday seeded iOS 8.1 Beta 2 to its registered iOS developers, in addition to new Apple TV and Xcode software betas.

According to the Cupertino firm, iOS 8.1 Beta 2 with build number 12B407 (up from the previous iOS 8.1 Beta 1 with build number 12B401) contains bug fixes and stability improvements throughout the system.

It's available as an over-the-air update if you have the first beta installed or standalone through Apple's Dev Center portal for developers.

Entertainment and Sky Movies monthly passes now available to Apple TV users in UK

Owners of the Apple TV media-streaming box in the United Kingdom can now take advantage of both Entertainment Month Pass and Sky Movies Month Pass via an expanded NOW TV channel by UK home entertainment and communications provider Sky, technology website Engadget reported and Sky confirmed Wednesday.

These two new options are in addition to the existing £9.99 (US$16.5) Sky Sports day pass which launched on NOW TV in December 2013.

FXNOW channel added to Apple TV, sans The Simpsons archive

Announced back in July, FX’s on-demand service dubbed FXNOW is now officially available as a brand new channel to owners of Apple's $99 Apple TV media-streaming box in the United States, Juli Clover of MacRumors first reported Tuesday.

Though the channel does offer a variety of content from the FX, FXX and FXM networks, including episodes of The Strain and Sons of Anarchy, the rumored Simpsons archive is nowhere to be found in today's release of the FXNOW Apple TV channel.

Tim Cook talks Steve Jobs, Beats buyout and more in Charlie Rose interview

Apple CEO Tim Cook is making the media rounds this week, following his company's big product unveiling event on Tuesday. He's spoken with ABC, The Wall Street Journal and several other outlets, and today he has popped up in an interview on PBS' The Charlie Rose Show.

It's a two-part interview, with the first segment airing today, and PBS has just posted a handful of clips from the conversation to YouTube. In them, Cook talks to Charlie about a wide range of topics, including Steve Jobs, Apple's Beats acquisition, and its future plans for TV.

‘Apple Events’ channel now available on Apple TV

Apple TV owners have probably noticed that the 'Apple Events' channel has returned to their main menu this morning. As with previous events, this channel will allow you to watch a live stream of today's iPhone keynote—although clicking on it now just brings up a splash screen with the start time and other details.

Apple will also be streaming the event live to its website, where users running Safari on OS X and iOS will be able to tune in (sorry Windows users). For those that are unable to watch live, Apple typically uploads a video of its event to its YouTube channel within 24 hours or so, or you can simply follow along with us.

Watch ABC app updated with AirPlay and Chromecast support

ABC released a big update to its Watch ABC app on Tuesday, adding AirPlay streaming to beam shows to the Apple TV and Casting Now for the Google Chromecast. Previously Watch ABC wanted to keep all of its video contained to just the iPhone and iPad screen, only sending audio. Thankfully it's changed with the times.

iTunes Festival and Showtime Anytime channels launch on Apple TV

Two nice updates for Apple TV owners today. First, Apple has re-launched the iTunes Festival channel on the $99 media-streming box in time for the 2014 iTunes Festival, which kicks off on September 1 in London.

And second, the firm has also added the Showtime Anytime channel to the device.

Showtime is a premium cable network offering some free content to all users, in addition to live and on-demand shows and events to those who've subscribed to the network through a participating cable provider.

Additional content sources have been added to the Apple TV in select markets, as outlined after the jump.

WatchESPN Apple TV channel gains SEC and Longhorn Network programming

College football fans will be happy to hear that WatchESPN has expanded its NCAA coverage on Apple TV. The sports-focused streaming video channel now features programming from the SEC Network and The Longhorn Network.
