Verizon Offering Monthly Discount and a $200 Rebate for the iPhone with FIOS Purchase

Verizon is using the iPhone for some cross promotion. Big Red is welcoming potential iPhone customers by offering a $200 rebate towards the iPhone with the purchase of Verizon's FIOS bundle. Customers will also receive a $5-$20 monthly discount on their plan with the purchase of FIOS.

Verizon has also updated its free FIOS DVR app for the iPhone, giving iPhone users another reason to use FIOS TV. If you're interested in what Verizon has to offer, these new discounts certainly sweeten the deal...

Apple Launches App Store Subscriptions for iOS

In a surprising move, Apple has launched its App Store subscription service without a co-release of iOS 4.3. In-app subscriptions will allow content producers to easily deliver content with a reoccurring purchase model, instead of a one-time, à la carte purchase system.

It was assumed that Apple would introduce its subscription service during a press event, but apparently a press release on Apple's website was all the announcement deserved.

Rupert Murdoch's "The Daily" news app was the first official peek at what Apple's subscription service would look like, but The Daily has been offered for free since its release. At the end of this month, The Daily will begin its paid subscriptions with Apple's new infrastructure...

Creating a good task manager app is not an easy feat. I'm fascinated by innovative productivity apps (check out our roundup of 5 awesome task managers for the iPhone), and I get excited when I hear about a new, unique task management app.

99% of task managers serve the purpose of either the present or the future. Some apps go super minimal and only let you create tasks for a single, non-time specific list. Other more robust apps allow you to queue and delegate your tasks into time frames such as due dates.

But what about the past? When a task is done, it is usually archived into a logbook, never to be seen again. "Time Flies," by Absent Design, demonstrates that there is value to be gleamed from our completed tasks...

All signs have been pointing to Apple releasing iOS 4.3 in the very near future, with speculation that Apple's 4.3 announcement could even come next week. Most speculation is centering on an Apple announcement taking place within the next 10 days.

Apple recently seeded the newest iOS 4.3 beta to developers. We showed you a preview of the multitouch gestures that Apple is working on for iOS 4.3, but there haven't been many more features uncovered.

However, a new and nifty feature in iOS 4.3 has been unearthed by AppAdvice. In iOS 4.3, you will finally have the ability to cancel an app from downloading and installing. As of right now, you can only delete an app from your iPhone's home screen once it has fully downloaded and installed....

Apple Clamping Down On In-App Purchases

Apple is making the move to have more control over App Store apps that utilize "in-app" purchases. The Sony Reader app was recently declined from App Store approval due to Apple's new stance on in-app transactions.

Until now, developers were able to sell content with in-app purchases through their own payment infrastructure. Apple has now made the stance that all in-app purchases must go through the Apple payment system, which in turn would give Apple a 30% cut off the top of sales.

This marks a shift from Apple's previous claim to want a more collaborative relationship with content producers who want to manage in-app purchases through their own backend...
