How You Can Save $20/Month on Your AT&T Cellphone Bill in 6 Minutes

Yesterday I saw an AT&T commercial on TV saying that if you're on a family plan and choose to get unlimited text messaging, you would automatically get unlimited calling to any mobile phone in the US.

So this morning, after my delicious grande Caramel Macchiato at Starbucks, I decided to pay a visit to the AT&T store, right next to the coffee shop, and see if they could help me save a few bucks...

Verizon Just a “Small Bang” in Overall iPhone Growth

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 4 on Verizon in February, everyone thought that the iPhone's cross-carrier distribution in the US would be the end of Android and other competitors. That hasn't been the case, as Verizon's adoption of the iPhone hasn't slowed AT&T sales of Apple's smartphone at all. Also, overall iPhone market share hasn't seen that impressive of an increase since Verizon picked up the iPhone 4.

A new report from Asymco details how Verizon is just a "small bang" in iPhone sales, and how the "big bang" is actually happening overseas.

AT&T Staff Prepping for September iPhone 5 Launch

As we inch closer to August and then September, expect an influx of iPhone 5-related rumors. Not only is the gossip common for online tech blogs, but hoards of stock holders and consumers with eligible upgrades want to know when Apple's next smartphone will arrive.

Well, folks placing their bets on the new device dropping in September may want to double down. We've already heard today that Apple is readying themselves for a September launch, and now BGR has just confirmed the same thing with AT&T stores...

Verizon iPhone Sales Slow in Anticipation of the iPhone 5

Verizon Wireless has released its earnings report for the third business quarter of 2011, with a reported 2.3 million iPhones activated on its CDMA network. The iPhone 4 came out on Verizon back in Feburary, and Verizon's sales numbers have been trailing behind AT&T's ever since.

In Q3, AT&T activated 3.6 million iPhones. Together, AT&T and Verizon only account for 30% of the 20 million iPhones Apple shipped last quarter, with AT&T still being the preferred carrier for new iPhone customers...

AT&T iPhone Activations Match Last Quarter at 3.6 Million

In its second quarter financial results today, AT&T revealed it had activated 3.6 million iPhones during the three-month period ending in June. This figure is identical to that announced for AT&T's first financial quarter, however, it is an increase over the 3.2 million devices activated during the same quarter last year.

After falling over the last 12-18 months, the number of new customers activating iPhones seems to have stabilized. 24% of iPhone activations were for new customers, which is just slightly higher than the first quarter, and significantly lower than the 40% rate during the early days of the iPhone.

AT&T Offers iPhone 3GS Refurb for $9

A recent rumor is that Apple will start offering the iPhone 3GS as its "low-end" consumer device this Fall with a $350 off-contract price tag. Previously, it was speculated that Apple would introduce a second iPhone 'Nano' model in the coming months for the prepaid and cheaper phone markets.

AT&T has started offering the 8GB iPhone 3GS as a refurb for only $9. Usually, these types of price drops mean that a carrier is trying to get remaining units off the shelves, so we find it unlikely that the 3GS will be of any interest to Apple come this Fall.

AT&T Memo Hints at an October 4th iPhone 5 Launch Date

If you think iPhone rumors are bad now, just wait until we get into August and September. Until Apple unveils its next smartphone, the entire tech industry is in a game of "guess what and when" for Apple's next announcement.

While the answer to the first question seems to vary depending on who you ask, most folks tend to agree that the device will launch sometime this Fall. Now the exact date is anybody's guess, but 9to5Mac just received an interesting tip that could suggest we'll see the new iPhone launch on October 4th...

AT&T Makes International Data Plans “a Bit Less Very Expensive”

If you're planning to travel overseas with your AT&T iPhone, you've probably already looked into international data plans, and figured out it was a complete rip off. And yes, you are right, international data usage on AT&T will cost you an arm and a leg.

In order to make this slightly less ridiculously expensive, AT&T has revamped its international data plan options, basically doubling their offering while keeping the same prices. It's still way overpriced, but at least you get more data...

32% of iPhone 4 Traffic Now on Verizon

Way back before Apple deemed Verizon customers worthy of the iPhone, pundits and users alike suggested that bringing Apple's much-loved handset to another US carrier could see an explosion in sales. The rationale was that many Verizon customers did indeed want an iPhone, but were not willing to suffer AT&T in order to get one.

Since its release earlier this year, Apple has seen its Verizon handsets shift in huge quantities, and according to a new study, iPhones bought for Verizon's network now account for 32% of all US iPhone 4 handsets....

Verizon Wireless Will Drop Unlimited Data Plans on Thursday

As smartphones become increasingly popular and we enter an age in which everyone has Internet access in the palm of their hand, unlimited data plans are becoming obsolete. Carriers are no longer happy to give us all the data we so desire.

Verizon Wireless will be the next carrier to drop its unlimited data plans, and on Thursday, July 7, new customers will have to sign up for one of four tiered plans.

A Verizon spokesperson confirmed the move to FierceNews today and confirmed the new prices, which happen to make AT&T look like a better choice for some...

iPhone to Get AT&T’s Standard Insurance on July 17th

AT&T has finally announced that it will be offering its standard Mobile Insurance program for the iPhone starting July 17th. All iPhone models will have the option of a $4.99/month fee that protects against theft, loss, physical injury, liquid damage and mechanical or electrical malfunction.

The main catch is that existing customers won't be able to update their current iPhone model with AT&T's new policy. The carrier's update only applies to new customers or upgrades within the last 30 days.

LulzSec’s Stolen Archives Reveal AT&T LTE Data Plans

AT&T's upcoming LTE network has certainly been grabbing headlines lately. AT&T claims that their purported 4G network is capable of real world download speeds in upwards of 28 Mbps. In comparison, Verizon's 4G network averages between 5-12 Mbps.

Thanks to LulzSec, we know that the carrier plans on rolling out their new LTE network in the first week of July. It also appears that another document has been found amongst the hacking group's stolen archives that helps shine some light on the 4G project...
