The Ultimate iPad Stand

Have you ever tried looking at a recipe application on your iPad while trying to cook? Or tried to learn how to play the guitar via an iPad app? These things would be so much easier if you had someone or something to hold your tablet for you.

Enter the Kickstarter project by designer Seth Quest. It looks like him and his partner just recently raised enough money to fund production of their prototype, the Hanfree.

The iPad accessory is designed to hold your iPad for you, leaving your hands free to do other things. The Hanfree is essentially a case attached to a wide base, with a steel neck and a ball and socket joint.

This setup allows for 360 degree rotation of the iPad, so it can easily be switched from landscape to portrait mode. The see-through case securely grips your iPad as you're using it, and the stainless steel neck pivots so you can swing the device out of the way when you're not.

I think the design is fairly brilliant given the options of iPad stands currently available. Apparently others think so too. The Kickstarter project has exceeded its $15,000 goal and is set to be funded early next month.

Even though they've already collected enough to start production, they are still taking donations. If you pledge $50 or more, you get a Hanfree once they start shipping. Not a bad deal considering the product will retail for $79.99.

First White iPhone 4 Has Been Sold!

While even I'm growing tired of the constant white iPhone 4 rumors, this little tidbit was definitely worth reporting. So far sources within AT&T and Verizon have yet to see any evidence of a white iPhone 4 April launch.

Other than the mysterious order page that showed up on a website last week, we really haven't seen any concrete evidence that the phone even exists. Well it looks like earlier today, some real proof started materializing...

‘YTLive’ Web App Sort of Makes Up For YouTube’s Lack of Live Streaming for iOS Devices

Recently YouTube announced their plans to start broadcasting live content on a regular basis.

If you head over to youtube.com/live, you'll find a few live broadcasts, although the pickings are quite slim at the moment.

Still, there might be some of you who enjoy watching random fashion shows, and things of the nature.

Oddly enough, if you try to watch one of the live broadcasts from an iPhone, you'll be presented with a friendly note informing you that streaming is not available on mobile devices. What to do then?

Permanent Unlock CutYourSim Discontinues Service

Last week we told you about a new unlock service called CutYourSim that offered a remote, permanent unlock for the iPhone. Instead of the classic method of jailbreaking and installing UltraSn0w, CutYourSim claimed to permanently unlock your iPhone's baseband remotely for any GSM carrier.

For $169.99, the folks at CutYourSim would be able to unlock your iPhone's baseband and keep it unlocked forever. Sounds like a dream come true, right?

The dream didn't last long. CutYourSim has already announced that it is discontinuing its unlock service...

China is the iPhone’s Fastest Growing Market

In Apple's Q1 earnings call, the company released very impressive numbers for its sales in the first three months of 2011. The iPhone's fastest growing market is China, with an over 250% increase in iPhone sales since this time last year.

China is a major hub for technology and smartphone innovation, and most iPhone knockoffs are Chinese-made. 10% of Apple's revenue comes from China (to the tune of about $5 billion). The iPhone is doing extremely well; now accounting for 8.3% of China's 850 million mobile customers.

AT&T: We Need T-Mobile to Increase Our Network’s Reliability

Since the news surfaced about AT&T's potential acquisition of T-Mobile, many have concerned themselves with AT&T's motivation behind the move.

Unsurprisingly, Sprint, the company that stands to lose the most from the deal, is officially in opposition and has asked the government to block the $39 billion dollar transaction.

Closer Look at iPhone’s Location-Tracking Database

A couple days ago, we told you about a discovery made by two researchers concerning location data collection on the iPhone. Apparently, the iPhone logs your GPS coordinates for an unspecified amount of time and saves that data to a system-level consolidated.db file that is then synced over to iTunes upon backup.

This finding was demonstrated at the Where 2.0 conference by British programmers Pete Warden and Alasdair Allen. They claimed the discovery as their own, when in fact it has actually been a known issue in the security community since last year.

Cydia Experiencing Issues Due to Amazon EC2 Outage? [UPDATED]

According to a recent tweet from big-name jailbreak dev chpwn, it appears that Cydia is experiencing connectivity issues due to a prolonged outage of Amazon's EC2 cloud computing service.

EC2 is a service used by many heavily-trafficked services on the internet, and Amazon has been experiencing an EC2 service outage for an astounding 16+ hours. Some say that Cydia is working fine, but the jailbreak store has been experiencing intermittent connectivity issues since the EC2 outage began.

NFL Finally Releases Official iPad Application

While an NFL season is questionable, the draft seems to be right on schedule. On April 28th, last year's top college football players will participate in the NFL Draft where players are selected by professional teams.

The NFL iPad app will allow you to watch live video of the draft, along with several other great features. You can check which positions your favorite team needs help in and view a detailed breakdown of each player that gets drafted. You can even set the application to alert you when your favorite team is up for selection.

Outside of the exclusive draft coverage, the application is pretty bare. There is a section where you can read general news and view the entire NFL schedule, but that's pretty much it.

If a 2011 season does go on as planned, the NFL has mentioned that there will be a lot more content pushed out to users via an update. You'll most likely get the usual cocktail of features like in-game highlights and up to the minute league scoreboards.

I would be interested to see Fantasy Football get integrated into the application. Maybe even throw in some audio clips of popular players that are wearing microphones throughout the game.

Although it's kind of on the light side right now, if you're planning on watching the draft next week, this application would make a nice accessory. NFL 2011 for iPad is free to download from the App Store.
