Kid Sells His Kidney to Buy an iPad 2

How much do you want an iPad 2? What would you do to get one? Unless you're willing to sell a part of your body, you're probably not as desperate as Zheng, a 17 year old teenager from China, who decided to sell one of his kidneys to finance the purchase of an iPad 2.

Because he couldn't afford it, Zheng started looking around on the internet for ways to get that money. This is when a "broker" got in touch with him and offered him 20,000 yuan (about $3,000) for one of his kidneys...

Future iPhone Cameras to Use Infrared Technology

A newly discovered Apple patent reveals that future iPhones could use infrared technology to provide sophisticated cameras that communicate with the objects around them. The system works by picking up infrared signals that contain encoded data and decoding them to display related information to the user or modify the operation of their device.

The patent suggests the feature could be used to disable an iPhone's camera in a place where image capturing is illegal, or it could turn iOS devices into tour guides that enable a user to interact with objects around them...

Will the Next iPhone Have 4G on AT&T Only?

Despite launching on Verizon just this February, one analyst believes Apple could be about to ditch the carrier for a second time and launch its next iPhone with 4G compatibility on AT&T only.

Todd Rethemeier, an analyst at Hudson Square Research, has ignored recent speculation that claims the fifth-generation iPhone will be called the 'iPhone 4S' and will skip 4G wireless support, and claims in his report the next device will instead be called the 'iPhone 5', boasting 4G compatibility and leaving Verizon behind...

Poll: Do You Think Apple Will Unveil the iPhone 5 Next Week?

Apple is having its annual WWDC event next Monday and we already know that Steve Jobs is going to be there to announce the company's new iCloud service as well as the long expected iOS 5.

Rumors about a possible iPhone 5 launch are going crazy. If there is a big unknown for the WWDC, it is Apple's next flagship device. With conflicting reports, it's hard to tell whether or not we'll have a new iPhone this summer...

Create Custom Push Notifications For Any App With AppAlert

Having applications that remind us of our daily tasks & chores is one of the advantages that comes with carrying an iPhone. If your memory is anything like mine, you too will struggle to dress yourself properly each morning without the help of a good to-do list app and push notifications. But AppAlert for iOS takes push notification to the next level.

Available now through Cydia, AppAlert allows you to create custom push notifications for any application. So rather than setting yourself a reminder to pay that important utility bill — which you'll no doubt just dismiss and forget about — you can create a push notification that takes you straight into your banking app to transfer the money instantly…

Apple Takes Over iCloud.com, Big Things Coming Monday

Apple has taken complete ownership of the domain iCloud.com. After announcing that Steve Jobs would unveil Apple's "upcoming cloud services offering" Monday at WWDC, Cupertino has sealed the deal by totally taking over the new service's web address.

The media jumped on the name "iCloud" awhile ago when it was discovered that Apple was looking to buy the iCloud.com domain. Now the deal is done, and iCloud is almost a reality.

You Could RT Us and Like Us… Now You Can +1 Us

Today Google unveiled +1, the company's new attempt to doing something in the social space. Similar to Facebook's Like button, hitting Google's +1 button is a way of saying "I like this post", or "check out this article". In short, clicking +1 will publicly give something your stamp of approval. It can then help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.

We just implemented the +1 button on iDB and of course, we want you to use it. You will see the little +1 button on every page of the site, right next to the Twitter and Facebook buttons. Make sure to hit it as much as you want because anything you can do to help spread our iPhone wisdom is much appreciated.

Of course, you can still follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, and subscribe to our RSS feed.

New App Lets You Add a Signature to Your Text Messages

SMS Signature is a new application available for jailbroken iPhones that will allow you to, as you probably figured out, add a custom signature to text messages sent from your iPhone.

After downloading the application from Cydia, you can use the Settings app to configure SMS Signature. From there, you can create and activate a custom text signature. From now on, every time you send a text message, the signature will automatically be appended to it...

Silverback iPhone 4S Travelling Around Australia?

If you're determined not to give up hope on Steve Jobs announcing a swanky new iPhone at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference next week, then we've got something to keep your dream alive.

Twitter user Sebastien Peek (@SebastienPeek) posted a message earlier today claiming "a contact" had seen a truck containing iPhone 4S prototypes making its way to Sydney, Australia. How did he know they weren't the iPhone 4? Because instead of black or white glass rear panels, they had silver backs similar to the iPod touch...

iCloud Could Be Free, if You Buy Mac OS X Lion…

Apple Insider heard from "people familiar with Apple's plans" that part of the iCloud features may be offered free of charge to those Mac users who upgrade to Mac OS X Lion.

My assumption is that iCloud will be MobileMe's replacement and in addition to offering email, remote file storage, calendar and contact syncing, iCloud will also let people stream their own iTunes library...

Brilliant Marketing: Apple’s $1 Billion Data Center Magically Appears on Google Maps

Up until today, if you looked for Apple's billion dollar data center in North Carolina on Google Maps, you could not find it. The location was there but it just showed some farmlands and nothing much around.

Things have changed. As of now, you can see Apple's North Carolina data center on Google Maps, and it seems to be one of the latest satellite images of it. So why didn't this data center show up on Google Maps before?
