‘Modbook Pro X’ turns your 15-inch Retina MacBook into a powerful tablet

Folks longing for a more powerful Apple tablet may want to checkout the new Pro X project from long-time MacBook-modifier Modbook. The company has taken to Kickstarter to market its latest creation—a 15.4" quad-core tablet with Retina display that runs Mac OS X.

The Modbook Pro X will be available in a number of configurations, based on the new Retina MacBook Pros Apple unveiled just this week. Packages can include a processor as fast as Intel's 2.8GHz Haswell chip, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to 2 terabytes of flash storage...

Apple’s $3 billion acquisition of Beats Music, a music-streaming service, and Beats Electronics, a highly lucrative premium headphone business, is nearing its completion.

Monday, the European Commission okayed the deal, saying it won't stifle competition in Europe.

No new Apple TV box expected this year

We've been kinda holding our breath for an Apple TV hardware refresh this year. Sadly, early signs haven't been encouraging thus far.

For instance, part leaks are non-existent while useful information in terms of which new hardware capabilities the updated box might bring is few and far between.

Pouring cold water on the "New Apple TV in 2014" meme, The Information, a new publication by the former Wall Street Journal reporter Jessica Lessin, has learned that Tim Cook & Co. have no plans to update the hardware in the $99 media-streaming box this year.

Depending on who you ask, cable companies are "dragging their heels" in terms of negotiating content deals for the device, whereas Apple is reportedly biting off "more than it can chew"...

Russia asks Apple for source code to alleviate espionage concerns

Russia's Ministry of Communications and Mass Media has suggested that Apple, along with German tech giant SAP, open the source code for its software to ensure that it's not enabling US intelligence agencies to spy on the country.

FreedomPop adds LTE iPads to its no-contract free data, text and voice plans

FreedomPop, a startup backed by Skype founder Niklas Zennstrom which provides free or inexpensive Internet service on the Sprint network, today added the original iPad mini and other cellular-capable iPads to its stable of supported devices.

Apple's LTE iPads, along with Samsung's seven-inch Galaxy Tab 3, are now eligible for FreedomPop's no-contract, free of charge voice, data and text plan.

It's basically the same plan that the company originally offered to smartphone owners. Additional voice and data is available for a fee.

Regardless of whether you're buying a little used iPad mini from FreedomPop or bringing your device over from another carrier, FreedomPop will treat you to gratis 500MB of LTE data, 200 voice minutes and 500 text messages.

Recently, we compiled a list of best jailbreak tweaks for the Music app on iOS 7 and you might want to check it out to discover new tweaks that you may find useful. This said, Musiex was among the list and we decided to take it for a spin. Read on to find out more about it.

Musiex allows users to access the media controls from anywhere within iOS and control the currently playing song without having to open the Music app. It can be launched by making use of an Activator gesture and swiping up the interface or pressing the Home button will close it. Once Musiex is activated, a neat interface appears at the top of the device's screen, just like the notification banner, and displays information about the currently playing song such as the track name, artist and more. Additionally, the song's artwork appears to the left of the interface and a progress bar is also available enabling users to scrub through songs and move to any specific point of a track...
