Report: iPhone 6 Plus users consume twice the data of iPhone 6 users

Owners of larger smartphones tend to use a lot more data than those with smaller screens, according to a new report from Citrix. The marketing research firm found that, on average, iPhone 6 Plus users consume twice the data of those with an iPhone 6.

While it makes sense that the 6 Plus would eat more data due to its larger display, Citrix thinks the difference has more to do with user behavior. People are treating the 6 Plus like they would a tablet, playing more games and streaming a lot more video.

IGN names EA’s ‘Mass Effect: Infiltrator’ its Free Game of the Month

Heads up gamers, IGN has just named EA's "Mass Effect: Infiltrator" its Free Game of the Month for February. The title has a rating of 4 out of 5 stores in the App Store, on thousands of reviews, and it typically retails for $4.99.

In Infiltrator, you play as veteran Cerberus agent Randall Ezno who works at a secret facility that conducts illicit experiments on alien beings. But when those experiments go too far, Randall vows to bring the whole project down. 

Apple becomes world’s first $700 billion company

Apple has just become the world's first $700 billion company, after shares of AAPL closed at $122.02, a new split-adjusted all-time high for the iPhone giant.

With this record close, Apple now sits at a massive $710,000,000,000 market cap - twice the size of Microsoft and largely beating oil-giant Exxon, who is in second-place at $385 billion.

Google I/O 2015 announced: May 28-29 in San Francisco’s Moscone West

Google I/O, the search giant's annual conference for developers akin to Apple's WWDC, is due this year May 28-29 in San Francisco's Moscone Center West.

Sundar Pichai, Google's Vice President of Android, Chrome and Google Apps, announced in a post over at Google+ that registration will open on March 17, 2015 at 9am PDT.

A Google account is required to apply for your seat and only one registration application per person is allowed. However, there's no need to rush because you'll have plenty of time to submit your registration application.

Kindle update brings eTextbooks and Book Browser to iPhone, and more

Amazon's free Kindle for iOS app has received a refresh this morning. Bumped to version 4.7, it lets students access Kindle eTextbooks from their iPhone and filter their notes by chapter for easy studying, thanks to an enhanced Notebook feature.

Book Browser, another new feature created with iPhone owners in mind, lets you tap on a book cover to reveal additional information like the book description and customer reviews.

Flipboard is now available in a web browser

Flipboard, a social-network aggregation news app delivered in a magazine-like format, today launched a web app that runs in any standards-compliant desktop web browser like Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome.

Available at flipboard.com, it lets you sign in with your Flipboard account and browse your Cover Stories, catch up on anything you're interested in and collect and share articles with friends, all inside your favorite desktop browser and without installing anything.

VESA’s new DisplayPort standard promises 8K screens on tablets, notebooks and all-in-ones

The Video Electronics Standards Association, or VESA, announced yesterday an update to the Embedded DisplayPort standard used in notebooks, desktop computers and other devices.

An improvement over the current DisplayPort 1.2a, the Embedded DisplayPort Standard 1.4a paves the way for notebooks, tablets, smartphones and all-in-ones with screen resolutions of up to 8K, or a whopping 7,680-by-4,320 pixels.

First gadgets using the new standard, based on Intel's upcoming SkyLake chipsets, are expected to hit the market by 2016.

Jailbreakers beware: iOS 8.1.2 is no longer being signed

iOS 8.1.2 met its end today, as Apple pulled the plug on its signing status. This means that iOS 8.1.2 can no longer be installed on a device, and as such, you can no longer jailbreak if you restore your device. Jailbreakers will need to stay where they are on iOS 8.1.2 if they want to keep their jailbreaks.

Apple to live-stream Tim Cook’s section of today’s Goldman Sachs Technology Conference

Apple announced this morning it'll be providing a live-stream audio of CEO Tim Cook's segment at Goldman Sachs Technology Conference.

The live webcast will be available later today over here, beginning at 12:30pm PT / 3:30pm ET. The company did not reveal the topics of Cook's conference talk nor the form of the interview.
