Samsung posts teaser for upcoming ‘Gear S2’ Apple Watch competitor

During its big Galaxy Note 5/S6 Edge+ event last week, Samsung showed off a video teaser of its upcoming Apple Watch competitor, the Gear S2. For folks who missed the keynote, the clip is now available on the company's Mobile YouTube channel.

We can glean quite a bit from the video. The Gear S2 will have a round watch face, similar to the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R, with round icons and other UI elements to match. It also looks like it will feature heart rate and fitness tracking capabilities.

20 recently released jailbreak tweaks for iOS 8.4

Apple seeds OS X El Capitan beta 7 to developers

Apple on Wednesday released the seventh OS X El Capitan beta to developers. The new build is available to registered developers via the Updates section of the Mac App Store or through Apple’s Developer Center.

Today’s update comes just over two weeks after Apple pushed out the sixth beta of OS X El Capitan, and well over two months after its initial release in early June during Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference.

iOS 8 adoption rate slowing down ahead of iOS 9, now sits at 86 percent

Our tracking of iOS 8 adoption rates continues with the newest update from the App Store dashboard indicating that the company's mobile operating system is now powering an impressive 86 percent of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices in the wild, as measured by the App Store on August 17, 2015.

iOS 7 continues to account for thirteen percent of iOS devices, with older iOS versions continuing to scrape out a mere two percent. A month ago, iOS 8 adoption stood at the 85 percent mark and iOS 7 comprised thirteen percent of iOS hardware in the wild.

Parallels Desktop 11 with support for El Capitan and Windows 10 now available

In addition to running newly-released Windows 10 natively on your Mac in dual-boot mode through Boot Camp 6, you can now enjoy Microsoft's latest and greatest operating system alongside OS X using the popular virtualization solution, Parallels Desktop.

In its latest incarnation that was released earlier today, Parallels Desktop 11 brings full support for Windows 10 features like Cortana and experimental support for Macs running OS X El Capitan.

iTranslate updated with keyboard extension and Apple Watch support

Sonico pushed out an update for its iTranslate app today, bringing the iOS client to version 8.4. The software, which is regarded as one of the best translation apps in the App Store, now comes with a keyboard extension and proper Apple Watch Glance.

The keyboard extension is particularly significant, since it can be used in most iOS 8-compatible apps. So now, instead of having to open the iTranslate app to make a translation, you can do it on the fly in WhatsApp, Mail or your favorite Twitter client.

The upcoming 'iPhone 6s' and 'iPhone 6s Plus' phones are expected to use a stronger 7000 Series aluminum body. A custom alloy designed for the Apple Watch Sport, 7000 Series aluminum is sixty percent stronger than standard aluminum alloys and just as light.

An elemental composition analysis of a claimed iPhone 6s shell performed by MacRumors gives us a deeper insight into the next iPhones' Bendgate-proof body.

For starters, the claimed part showed high iron levels of around eight percent on average. Not only does using iron enhance durability but makes the material easier to work with during the casting process.

iPad Pro with 2,732-by-2,048 screen reportedly appears in iOS app analytics

The so-called iPad Pro is indeed real and rocks a 2,732-by-2,048 pixel resolution screen as previously indicated, analytics firm AppSee said Wednesday. The firm captured the device's identifier in user logs: the iPad Pro identified itself as “iPad6,8.”

The first number designates a major hardware refresh and the second one variations within a generation.

By comparison, the iPad Air 2 model identifiers are “iPad5,3” and ”iPad5,4” for their respective Wi-Fi and cellular editions.

Stay away from new Mailbox for Mac update: it’s full of bugs and breaks support for Mavericks

KGI: iPad Pro with optional Force Touch-enabled stylus accessory entering production this fall

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a note issued to clients Wednesday, a copy of which was obtained by AppleInsider, that Apple's 12.9-inch 'iPad Pro' will be entering mass production in September or October of this year.

The device will feature an optional Apple-made stylus accessory, sold separately, with built-in Force Touch support.
