Nokia suing Apple for patent infringement in the US and Europe

Nokia announced on Wednesday that it has filed a number of complaints against Apple in Germany and the United States, alleging that its products infringe on Nokia patents. The company says it reached the decision to take action after several years of trying to reach an agreement with Apple to cover the use of its intellectual property.

Error messages popping up from failed automatic iOS updates? Here’s the fix

Your iPhone and/or iPad can perform over the air (OTA) software updates automatically during the night while you're sleeping, so long as it’s connected to a power source and you've given it permission first. While this feature is incredibly convenient for anyone who doesn’t have the time to wait for software updates during the day, it can sometimes be problematic.

Apple now offering refurbished Series 1 & 2 Apple Watches

Apple on Tuesday updated its online store with the addition of refurbished Apple Watch models. This is the first time, at least that we can recall, that the company has offered remanufactured versions of its wearable at a discount.

At the time of writing, the new section included a mix of Series 1 and Series 2 Apple Watches in a variety of size and color combinations. The savings range from $40 off, for the cheaper models, to $80 for the higher-end models.

Report offers insight into Apple’s internal Mac struggles

Following comments made by Tim Cook regarding the importance of the Mac, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman today issued a far-reaching report that offers insight into Apple's internal struggle with its laptop and desktop lines.

In the scoop, Gurman says that employees he's interviewed feel like the Mac is getting far less attention these days. They also say it's lost clout with Jony Ive's design team, and lacks a clear direction from senior management.

Apple stops signing iOS 10.1.1

Apple has stopped signing iOS 10.1 and 10.1.1 on Tuesday in a move that's sure to choke the jailbreak community a little bit further. It's typical of Apple to follow this kind of behavior after a new firmware release, so it's not surprising this would happen as iOS 10.2 was released just over a week ago.

With the firmware no longer being signed, downgrades to iOS 10.1.1 are currently no longer possible, so if you've upgraded to iOS 10.2 recently or need to do a fresh restore of iOS 10.1.1 in iTunes, then you're out of luck.

AT&T’s new Call Protect system blocks spam calls

AT&T on Tuesday introduced a new service for automated fraud and spam call-blocking. They're calling it Call Protect, and the system works like an email spam filter—identifying numbers believed to be associated with fraud and either blocking them or flagging them with a warning.

Also like other spam filters, users will be able to whitelist specific numbers to rectify any false positives, and even set temporary call blocking for unconfirmed spam calls. These more granular controls will be accessible from the Call Protect companion app on iOS and Android devices.
