New photos show partially assembled iPhone 6

Some new photos surfaced this afternoon, showing what is believed to be a partially assembled iPhone 6. We've seen shots of standalone parts, like the front panel and rear shell, but this is the first time we've seen what they look like put together.

Assuming the parts are legitimate, these photos give us the best look we've seen thus far of Apple's latest flagship smartphone. The iPhone 6 is much thinner than its predecessor, with rounded corners, and various aspects of it have been redesigned...

Alleged reversible Lightning to USB iPhone 6 cable caught on video

Along with the many enhancements and improvements expected in the iPhone 6 this fall, the handset is also expected to ship with a new, reversible Lightning to USB cable. We've seen multiple photos of the alleged cable, and Apple even holds a patent for such a design.

Tonight comes more evidence of the theory, with frequent part-leaker Sonny Dickson posting a video showing the new cable in action. It appears to work similar to the Lightning side of the current cable, allowing the user to plug in the USB side, regardless of orientation...

Apple releases OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6

Apple has released the sixth Developer Preview of its new OS X Yosemite operating system this morning. The update comes exactly two weeks after Preview 5, and over two months after Apple first announced Yosemite during its Developer Conference in June.

The update is labeled as build preview 6 1.0 and can be downloaded via the Mac App Store, or as a full download from Apple’s online developer center. It does not, however, appear to be out in Apple’s recently-launched public Yosemite Beta Seed program yet…

New photos claim to show 5.5-inch iPhone 6 display, logic board and battery

Some new photos popped up online this evening, showing what are said to be components for the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6. The claim is significant, as unlike the 4.7-inch model, we've seen just a handful of parts belonging to the larger handset.

Among the parts are a display panel, logic board, and perhaps more interesting, a battery. The battery runs at 4.35 volts, and has a capacity of 2,915 mAH. If legit, this would put the 5.5-inch iPhone ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in terms of battery size...

Vimeo users will be happy to hear that the video site has rolled out a new build of its iOS client. The update brings the app to version 4.2, and it brings about new video upload and private sharing options, as well as new find and follow features.

With Vimeo 4.2 on iPhone and iPad, you can now upload videos from your device’s Camera Roll, straight to Vimeo from within the app. You can also now share videos with people you follow on Vimeo privately, so they won’t show up in your feed…

Beats Music posts video celebrating Spike Lee’s ‘Do the Right Thing’ film

Apple's recently acquired Beats Music has posted a new video on its YouTube channel this evening. The 22-minute-long clip is called 'Do The Right Thing 25 Year Anniversary: A Beats Music Experience,' and it's a documentary that revisits the cast and location of Spike Lee's popular film.

As the name suggests, the video celebrates the 25th anniversary of 'Do The Right Thing,' a 1989 film about the consequences of hate and bigotry in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. The movie was controversial, but received critical acclaim and a number of major awards...

Twitter announces beta test of new ‘Promoted Video’ ads

Twitter has announced today that it is moving forward with its 'Promoted Video' ad project. The site has been testing Twitter Video Cards for several months now, and the results show that Tweets containing native video generate better engagement and more video views than other types of ads.

Thus, the company made it official today, saying that it's going to be performing a public beta test of Promoted Video on Twitter. The goal of the test is to make it easier for brands to upload and distribute video on the social network, and then of course to measure the reach and effectiveness of it all...

Pangu 1.2 jailbreak is out with AFC2, bug fixes, and more

The Pangu team has released an update to their jailbreak tool today. Pangu 1.2 is out now for both Windows and Mac, and it includes a handful of bug fixes and improvements that make the jailbreaking process a little easier.

Among the fixes are a resolution for an ongoing boot loop bug that some iPhone 4/4s users are experiencing, and patches for sandbox log and task_for_pid issues. The new Pangu also brings support for afc2...

Amazon Instant Video app gets new search history and quick resume features

Amazon posted a nice little update for its Instant Video app this weekend, bringing the client to version 2.8. The update includes a couple of new features and bug fixes that make searching for and watching content in the application much more enjoyable.

One of the new features has to do with video playback, and it enables you to quickly resume videos you've recently started from the app's home screen. You can also now quickly find content you've previously searched for with the new search history feature...

Yelp app updated with new Bing Translator feature for foreign reviews

Yelp announced a new feature for its mobile app this week called 'automated review translation.' The feature will allow users to translate foreign language reviews with the tap of a button, making it the perfect companion for folks traveling abroad.

Reviews are translated using Microsoft's 'Bing Translator' tech, and can be done one at a time, or as a group. Yelp says that the feature works for all 15 of its officially supported languages, which includes German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, and French...
