Astro Golf hits App Store, it’s mini golf with robots in outer space

Quick, what could be better than mini golf? Mini golf, with robots, in outer space - of course! Enter Astro Golf by Bolder Games, now available for the iPhone and iPad for $1.99, or half its regular price to celebrate the launch.

The game marries sci-fi concept to adventure elements and physics tricks allowing you to bounce, jump, fly through space, teleport around the course, ride a black hole and what not. Fun obstacles include killer bots, corrosive goo, steam, fire, trap doors and more.

As you can see, this isn't your Daddy's mini golf game. I've included a nice promo video, a few screenies and additional tidbits below the fold...

New Photo Booth port for iPhone released on Cydia

The last Photo Booth port for iPhone that we covered didn't worked very well. It featured only a handful of effects, and it was susceptible to crashes. To add insult to injury, the legality of such a port has been debated, because it redistributes assets from Apple.

Thankfully, CoolStar, the iOS hacker and jailbreak mainstay, has devised his own version of Photo Booth, and it features none of the caveats listed above. Check inside as we walk through this latest version of Photo Booth for the iPhone.

Fleksy’s predictive touch keyboard now available to all iOS developers

After releasing its predictive touch keyboard, Fleksy, in partnership with select launch partner apps such as Launch Center Pro, GV Connect, Blindsquare and Wordbox, the San Francisco-based startup behind the software has moved the SDK out of private beta so now all iOS devs can incorporate Fleksy as an alternative soft keyboard within their apps.

The Fleksy SDK requires no sign up, allows for different keyboard themes and is now available completely free of charge...

T-Mobile offering upgrading BlackBerry users $250 following backlash

BlackBerry users on T-Mobile who want to upgrade to a new device will now receive $250 towards the purchase of any BlackBerry phone, or $200 toward any other smartphone. The deal follows backlash from both BB loyalists and CEO John Chen regarding a recent promo offer.

For those that missed it, T-Mobile sent out an email to its BlackBerry-using customers suggesting they switch to an iPhone 5s. Loyal BB users took to Twitter to voice their outrage at the insulting offer and BlackBerry's Chen penned a blog post calling the whole thing "inappropriate."

Screens updated with new trackpad mode, iCloud Keychain support and more

Popular VNC client Screens updated its iPhone and iPad application today, bringing it to version 3.2. The update brings about a handful of new features and a number of improvements including better URL scheme and Retina display support.

As for the new features, the app now has a trackpad mode, which—as the name suggests—allows you to control the mouse cursor on your computer as you would with a standard trackpad. And it's also gained support for your iCloud Keychain...

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirms talks with Apple, but says sale unlikely

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, in an interview Bloomberg today confirmed speculation that his Palo Alto-based electric car company has held talks with Apple. He wouldn't comment on what the conversations revolved around, but noted that an acquisition was "very unlikely."

Musk's comments follow a report by The San Francisco Chronicle earlier this week that suggested the two were in buyout discussions. The paper claimed that the meeting took place in Cupertino between Musk, Tim Cook and Apple’s chief of mergers and acquisitions Adrian Perica...

New job listings call for Apple TV content partner and software engineers

While it seems like everyone is focused on Apple's rumored iWatch, and the various features it could offer, the company is believed to be quietly working on another major project: a TV device. Not the television set we used to hear rumors about, but a new set-top box.

Adding to recent reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal regarding the project are a pair of job listings recently discovered on Apple's website. They call for a Content Partner Engineer and Software QA Engineer—both of which will work on the Apple TV team...

Facebook is buying WhatsApp for $16 billion

Facebook has announced this afternoon that it has reached a deal to acquire WhatsApp, the makers of the popular cross-platform messaging app, for a staggering $16 billion. That's $4 billion in cash and approximately $12 billion in Facebook shares.

The social network says that WhatsApp will continue to operate independently after the acquisition, but claims the deal with WhatsApp—who has nearly 500 million users—"accelerates Facebook’s ability to bring connectivity and utility to the world."

Apple reportedly secured three year’s worth of sapphire glass

With a larger of the two jumbo-sized iPhones rumored to arrive later this year rocking a massive 5.5-inch screen, Apple's adamant to buy huge amounts of thin sapphire laminates, likely to strengthen the handset's cover glass. We know Apple invested nearly $500 million in high-tech furnaces and equipment for its Arizona sapphire plant.

The firm is operating the facility in partnership with GT Advanced.

We've also known that Apple and GT have signed an exclusive multi-year agreement and now Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth has gone on the record claiming that Apple has acquired three-year supply of sapphire screens...

Google I/O Developer Conference slated for June 25-26 this year

Google senior vice president Sundar Pichai just announced via Google+ that the company's annual I/O event is scheduled for June 25-26 this year. For those unfamiliar with the conference, it's a lot like Apple's yearly WWDC gathering in San Francisco.

The timing is particularly interesting in that Google held I/O in May last year, well before Apple's WWDC event. It would seem that this time the search giant is hoping to get a glimpse at what Apple has cooked up this year before divulging all of its own secrets...
