List of jailbreak tweaks compatible with iOS 8

Although we're overjoyed at the release of a jailbreak so quickly after the arrival of iOS 8, there are still a number of tweaks that are currently incompatible with iOS 8. Even now that Cydia and Cydia Substrate have been updated, many tweaks still are inducing Safe Mode when installed on devices running the latest firmware, and developers will have to release updates for quite a few of their jailbreak tweaks before they become usable.

Apps with support for Apple Pay

Alongside today's launch of Apple Pay, the App Store is featuring a running list of apps that have been updated to include support for Apple Pay purchases. These apps can accept payment on any iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3 with iOS 8.1 installed and Apple Pay configured.

A number of apps have received updates with support for seamless purchases with Apple Pay, and several more apps will follow suit in the near future. We've complied a list of apps, complete with links, that support Apple Pay and will be adding to it as updates are released, so check back soon. If you know of an app that supports Apple Pay but isn't featured here, please let us know in the comments below or via email at tips@idownloadblog.com.

iCloud Photos is now available for iOS 8.1 beta users

Ahead of October 20's public launch of iOS 8.1, Apple has released iCloud Photos to users running the iOS 8.1 beta on their devices. Qualifying accounts will be able to access iCloud Photos to view their iCloud Photo Library on the web through the beta version of iCloud.com.

Reports indicate that iCloud Photos looks and functions much like the stock Photos app on iOS, with the ability to view photos and select them to download to your computer.

Apple updates iLife and Aperture with support for OS X Yosemite

Coming soon after the release of OS X Yosemite in the Mac App Store, Apple has updated its iLife software suite, along with Aperture, to support Yosemite and many of the features it introduces.

iMovie and GarageBand both received support for OS X Yosemite in the way of Mail Drop, but iMovie was the only one to gain a new coat of Yosemite paint, although GarageBand now has a new icon. iPhoto and Aperture appear to have been given only the necessary compatibility tweaks to patch Yosemite-related bugs, as Apple plans to drop support entirely for both apps early next year in favor of the upcoming Photos for Mac photo manager and editor.

1Password for Mac is 30% off for a limited time

In conjunction with today's release of OS X Yosemite, AgileBits is running a 30% 0ff sale on the Mac version of its popular password manager, 1Password. The company also recently reduced its iOS app to free with in-app purchases alongside the release of iOS 8.

Although we've seen this deal on previous occasions, now is still an excellent opportunity to download 1Password, as it features a lot more than simple password saving. Not only does it store everything from passports to software licenses, but it securely syncs this information among all the devices on which you have 1Password installed.

Pixelmator is coming to iPad soon, app teased in new video

Soon after its appearance on stage at Apple's iPad event today, Pixelmator has published a blog post featuring a sneak peak at Pixelmator for iPad, a full-featured version of its popular photo editing app for Mac.

Although several of its features are still under wraps, Pixelmator did announce that its iPad app will include a layer-based image editor with a true-to-life painting engine, color adjustments, retouching tools, effects, shapes, typography, selection tools, non-destructive layer styles, and even support for Photoshop documents.

Apple introduces new Smart Covers and Smart Cases for iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3

Following today's announcements, Apple has refreshed its Smart Cover and Smart Case accessories for iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. The Smart Covers are made of polyurethane and come in seven vibrant colors, while the Smart Cases have a leather construction and are available in five neutral colors.

Designed to fit the 6.1mm form factor of the iPad Air 2, Apple is selling its Smart Covers and Smart Cases at $39 and $79 respectively, with the iPad mini 3's versions being $39 and $69 respectively – the iPad mini 3's leather Smart Case coming in as $10 cheaper than its Air 2 counterpart.

Apple retail employees begin training on Apple Pay as launch nears

As Apple readies the launch of Apple Pay for later this month, it has initiated a mandatory, one hour training program for its retail employees and is coordinating with third-party retailers to ensure that stores will be able to complete transactions via Apple Pay starting on launch day.

Per a recent leak, screenshots indicate that Apple Pay establishment will be an option when setting up the rest of the device, and credit card details can be entered manually or scanned in with the device's camera. A new report by 9to5mac suggests that settings can be adjusted and additional credit cards can be added through an upcoming "Passbook & Apple Pay" tab in iOS's Settings app.

Google rolls out News & Weather iOS app

Google began the rollout of its latest iOS app, News & Weather, Tuesday afternoon in the App Store. The newest in Google's collection of 43 apps on iOS, News & Weather displays news headlines on a variety of topics and features a detailed weather forecast view for cities of your choice.

News & Weather, which is rolling out in multiple countries, packs quite a large amount of customization in the way of personalized content, and users' settings appear to sync with their Google account. Until now, this app was only available to owners of Android devices.

Take control of your camera with Manual

With the introduction of iOS 8 came new developer APIs allowing apps to have exacting control of several camera adjustments, including exposure, focus, and shutter speed. Manual is a photography app that implements these new freedoms in a beautiful package, granting users full control of their photos.

I went hands-on with Manual for a few days, venturing into my highly "unphotogenic" yard in an attempt to gather a few decent shots with both Manual and iOS's stock Camera for comparison to see exactly how much of an advantage the ability to manually adjust camera settings can give.

New App Store section features “Apps for Health,” a collection of apps that support HealthKit

The App Store has been updated Saturday afternoon with an "Apps for Health" section in the Featured tab, which lists several apps that use iOS 8's Health app to aggregate health and fitness data into a unified location for users.

After delaying HealthKit-compatible apps due to a critical bug in the first version of iOS 8, Apple released iOS 8.0.2 on Thursday and quickly began approving apps that take advantage of the health-tracking features the following day. Now, Apple has created this new section in an effort to promote apps that have received their HealthKit updates.

Although there may be more out there – and more are sure to come – Apple has 14 apps listed, and we've compiled them below with links to each.

Photo apps optimized for iOS 8

Back in June, Apple announced PhotoKit, a new way to edit photos using third-party apps and filters – all from the stock Photos app. Many legacy photography apps have received updates enabling these features, making accessible a great deal of functionality, all in one app. iOS users can now apply watermarks, filters, effects, and more directly in Photos, a feature iPhoneographers are sure to love.

We've brought together a list of the photo apps that have been updated to support Apple's PhotoKit and can be downloaded now.
