Minesweeper Widget Edition is a new app launching in the App Store today that, as you might have guessed, brings a playable Minesweeper widget to the Today tab of Notification Center. Developed by the same guy who made Overglide, another playable Notification Center widget, Minesweeper Widget Edition promises to offer short and quick gaming to make your wait in line at the grocery store ever so enjoyable.
AT&T announced on Tuesday that it is now making a new calling package available, allowing its customers to get unlimited calling to Mexico. Available for a monthly price of $5 per line, the AT&T World Connect Value calling plan offers free unlimited calls to Mexico, as well as discounted calls to 225 countries.
Thermos for iPhone and iPad is the first application to let you control your Nest thermostat directly from your iPhone or iPad's Notification Center. Already available for Mac (read our review), Thermos has now made its way to iOS with a Notification Center widget that allows Nest user to adjust the temperature of the thermostat, as well as setting it to Away, or turning it off altogether.
After an incredibly prolific amount of releases last week, things seem to have calmed down again in Cydia, with 30 new tweaks released during the last 7 days. If you haven't had time to launch Cydia lately, make sure to take a couple minutes to peruse this list of tweaks, and catch up on what's new and interesting.
Users looking to abuse Apple's new 14-day return policy for digital purchases in Europe will be in for a bad surprise, as the company has apparently been taking measures against those that want to dishonestly take advantage of the system.
According to one account from a user who had been abusing the return policy by downloading a dozen apps and requesting refunds after "trialing" them, Apple quickly caught up to the scheme and is now warning him he won't be eligible for refunds for newly purchased applications.
A controversy quickly followed the release of the evasi0n7 jailbreak, when the evad3rs released it a year ago. The group of hackers responsible for the jailbreak had allegedly inked a deal with a Chinese company called TaiG to bundle their installer to the jailbreak for Chinese locals in exchange for a monetary compensation that we believed was in the amount of one million dollars. One million dollars! Unfortunately for the evad3rs, things went sideways. TaiG turned out to be an installer that facilitated piracy. The evad3rs pulled the plug on it, kissing their one million dollars goodbye.
Wow, what a week!
These are the words I said to myself after I finished listing all the new tweaks that were released this past week in Cydia. And there were some pretty original and useful tweaks too, but you be the judge of that.

Apple is not killing off the iPod shuffle, according to a report from Billboard who cites sources with knowledge of the situation. Instead, the publication says that "Apple is actually going thorough component supplier changes that have interrupted production of the Shuffle." If this report is to be believed, slipping iPod shuffle shipping times and unavailability in Apple Stores around the country could simply be explained by the fact that Apple is switching components supplier.
BGR is out with a report today claiming that Apple could be releasing a software update as soon as next week. It is unclear whether it would be a beta release, or the public release of iOS 8.1.3, but the publication notes the software could be available Tuesday or Wednesday.
iDB's own analytics showed a very clear spike of traffic yesterday emanating from devices running iOS 8.1.3 on Apple's networks, which could indicate that the public version of iOS 8.1.3 is right around the corner and currently being seeded to select Apple employees.
Bustio is a new app released in the App Store that will turn your burst photos into animated GIFs or videos, which you can then save to your Camera Roll or share with others via several channels.
The concept is pretty simple. After taking a series of photos in burst mode with your iPhone camera, simply launch Burstio, and select the burst of photos you want to use. From there you have the option to adjust the playback speed from slow, to normal, to fast. Then hit the export button to convert the burst photos into an HD video or an animated GIF.
Following the terrorist attack on the office of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, Apple is now showing its support by displaying a black banner reading "Je suis Charlie" on its French website. Je suis Charlie (I am Charlie) has been a statement used by supporters of free speech in France and many places around the world, following the terrible massacre that left 12 people dead yesterday.
As a French citizen and a firm believer in free speech, I feel terribly saddened and enraged by the attack. As a human being, it definitely feels good to see the support the whole world has been offering.
