Steve Jobs, talking to telecommunication consultant Raj Aggarwal about how he was annoyed that AT&T was spending too much time worrying about the risks of the deal he was negotiating with them before the first iPhone came out...

Google to replace AT&T as Starbucks Wi-Fi provider

Starbucks drinkers will be glad to learn that Google will soon replace AT&T as the coffee chain's preferred partner to power the Wi-Fi network of its 7,000+ US stores. Additionally, Google Fiber access, where available, will be provided as well.

According to a post over at the official Google blog:

That’s why we’re teaming up with Starbucks to bring faster, free WiFi connections to all 7,000 company-operated Starbucks stores in the United States over the next 18 months. When your local Starbucks WiFi network goes Google, you’ll be able to surf the web at speeds up to 10x faster than before. If you’re in a Google Fiber city, we’re hoping to get you a connection that’s up to 100x faster.

How great is that?

How Samsung is beating Apple in China

Reuters:

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook believes that "over the arc of time" China is a huge opportunity for his pathbreaking company. But time looks to be on the side of rival Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, which has been around far longer and penetrated much deeper into the world's most populous country.

Some great insights in this article where the authors break down how Samsung is outdoing Apple in China. In shorts, it all comes down to the different strategy Samsung adopted in China: multiple devices with low to high prices, creating "perceived innovation", a large retail presence, and maintaining good relationships with carriers.

Apple’s latest major acquisition: Apple

Philip Elmer-DeWitt, writing for Fortune:

Last quarter, Apple finally made a major acquisition. And what did it buy?

It bought Apple.

By my calculation, the company spent $16 billion last quarter ($4 billion in cash, $12 billion through the so-called accelerated share repurchase program) to purchase 36 million of its own shares at an average price of just over $444.

For that amount, Apple could have bought three Nokias or three BlackBerrys...

Extend your iPhoneography creativity with Color Moves in Photoshop Touch

Welcome back to iDB's lessons in iPhone photography. If you remember the last lesson, I hinted that we could be taking a deeper dive into some post processing techniques. Specifically, that deeper dive will be looking at RGB color moves using Photoshop Touch.

I'm sure you are asking, what is an RGB color move and why would you want to do it? All the color information your iPhone records is composed of Red, Green and Blue (RGB) data. The idea of a color move is to brighten or darken the various RGB values in your images to expand your creative post processing. Maybe you want to make an image more red or blue. Maybe you want to create your own Instagram-like filter that is uniquely yours. In this quick lesson, you will learn how to do just that...
