AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon iPhone Plans Compared

As soon as Apple announced October 14th as the release date for the new iPhone 4S on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, potential buyers began wondering which carrier would be the right option.

Now that AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint all offering the iPhone, everyone is looking at the pros and cons of each carrier. With that in mind, Macworld has put together a comprehensive comparison of the choices for new iPhone owners on all three US carriers...

Steve Jobs Planned Apple’s Next Four Years Of Products Before He Left

With all the changes going on at Apple these days, like Steve Jobs stepping down as CEO and his subsequent passing, there has to be one burning question for those of us who follow the workings of the Cupertino company. What will Apple be like without Jobs?

And if we're wondering, you can bet that those with a financial stake in the company are also keen to find out how Apple will change over the coming years...

New iPod Nano Laid Bare for Our Enjoyment

You almost have to feel sorry for the little guy, don't you?

Apple's newest iPod nano, now into its seventh iteration (if you count Tuesday's software refresh as a "new model"), has been given the infamous iFixit treatment, and had its innards laid out for all to gawk at...

Android Apps Running On an iPad, World Doesn’t Implode

Great news for the two of you that want to run Android apps on your iPad!

Alien Dalvik, the software layer that allows all Android apps to run on the Android platform, is being ported to various different platforms, including BlackBerry's PlayBook. More importantly, and certainly more interestingly, Apple's iPad is also on the list of devices that will soon support Android apps...

That Tapered iPhone 5 Design? It’s Still Coming

Before Apple's iPhone 4S announcement this week, there were more than a few rumors going around that the next iPhone would be a radical redesign of the device. A new, tapered body was to be the main, eye-catching alteration to the form factor that has served Apple so well over the last year or so.

As we all know, that didn't happen. Instead, Apple launched the iPhone 4S, a slight speed-bump to the existing iPhone 4, with a new camera thrown in for good measure. Yes, Siri adds that little bit of sparkle to an otherwise dull release, but let's be frank, this is no iPhone 5.

So what about that tapered design we heard so much about? Well, we may still see it, even if that won't be until this time next year...

iPhone 4S Only Has 512MB of RAM, Just Like iPhone 4 and iPad 2

When Apple announced the iPhone 4S on Tuesday, there was no mention of just how much RAM the new handset was packing. This didn't seem too odd at the time, after all, Apple doesn't usually for the Android approach of listing specifications in a hope to garner sales.

What is interesting is the revelation from Chair Entertainment’s creative director Donald Mustard, who claims that the iPhone 4S only sports 512MB of RAM, not the presumed 1GB...

What’s Different About the iPhone 4S Antenna?

One part of Apple's iPhone 4S announcement that perhaps isn't getting all that much talk time (see what I did there?) is the new, redesigned antenna system. That's particularly interesting considering how eager everyone was so talk about it, back when the iPhone 4 was suffering from the good ol' AntennaGate debacle!

So, what's so new about Apple's latest redesign of something that most phone manufacturers never even talk about at all?

Why You Want to Buy the iPhone 4S on AT&T

Those keeping up with yesterday's iPhone 4S event probably noticed a rather interesting tidbit saying that Apple's iPhone 4S is, in theory at least, up to twice as fast at downloading data as its older brother, the iPhone 4. That's obviously great news, and Apple sought to inform its audience yesterday that the iPhone 4S can compete with so-called 4G handsets.

The truth of the matter is that yes, the iPhone 4S can (again, theoretically) download data at up to 14.4Mbps, thanks to its use of HSPA+ technology. The problem? AT&T is the only one of Apple's three US carrier partners that actually uses HSPA+...

Watch the iPhone 4S Keynote Video

For those of us that weren't lucky enough to be at Apple's press event today, the Cupertino firm has just made the whole 'Let's Talk iPhone' event available online.

The video, all 90 minutes of it, can be streamed right now from Apple's web site, and we expect it to hit Apple's iTunes Podcast feed later today...

Apple Announces Siri, the iPhone 4S Intelligent Assistant

We've been talking about this for quite some time, and today we finally found out what Apple is going to do with its purchase of voice-based artificial intelligence business, Siri. As we'd expected, Siri is now going to be built right into the iPhone 4S, bringing advanced voice control to Apple's newly announced handset.

During today's special iPhone Event, Apple's Scott Forstall showed off a variety of new and interesting ways of talking to your iPhone, with Siri doing the user's bidding as if it was, scarily enough, a real assistant...

Apple Adds ‘Find My Friends’ to Upcoming iOS 5

It's Apple event time, and the team in Cupertino just announced a new addition to iOS 5 - Find My Friends.

Using the magic of GPS and WiFi triangulation, iOS 5 will now allow friends and family to keep tabs on each other, assuming all the relevant privacy and parental controls are set correctly.

Users can set quiet times, with Foursquare-like checkins telling your friends and loved ones just where you are.

More to come as the event unfolds, and with the iOS 5 release coming next week, we won't have long to wait before we're all keeping tabs on each other from the comfort of our iDevices.

Is Apple Set to Announce App Trials?

We're so close to tomorrow's iPhone event that we can taste it, and the rumors just keep on flying. The latest comes thanks to Apple's latest iTunes 10.5 beta, with 'The Tech Era' discovering a rogue bit of code that, they believe, could point to Apple's impending announcement of iOS app rentals.

The blog post points out that after the rental period has elapsed, the app in question would automatically be deleted from a user's iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. While that sounds theoretically possible, I'm not convinced that's the plan at all. What if Apple was planning on finally rectifying one of the issues that has plagued the App Store since day one? What if Apple was planning on announcing app trials?

It actually makes a lot of sense, and here's why...
