Apple seeds iOS 9 GM and iOS 9.1 beta 1

Ahead of next week's September 16th's iOS 9 public release, Apple has seeded the iOS 9 Golden Master seed. This release, baring any unforeseen circumstances, will contain the same code that ships to customers next week.

Apple also took the time to release the first public beta of iOS 9.1. Reports have stated that the newly announced iPad Pro will come with iOS 9.1 once it ships in November.

Both iOS 9 GM and iOS 9.1 beta 1 are now available for download via Apple's Developer Center.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus price and availability

Apple's just-announced iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available for pre-order on Saturday, September 12th, and ship on September 25th. The iPhone 6s starts at $199 on contract, while the iPhone 6s Plus will be available for $100 more at $299 on contract. Both phones start with 16GB of flash storage space, and as Apple has done for many years now, price increases occur incrementally based on the amount of flash storage.

Gruber: there’s only going to be one Apple event this fall

Popular Apple blogger John Gruber went with his gut on Tuesday, and reasoned that there would not be new a new iPad Pro revealed at today's Apple event. His reasoning, I thought, was totally logical: Apple had too many other big items on its plate to give the iPad Pro the proper stage time that it deserved.

After mingling with those in the know out in San Francisco, however, it appears that Gruber is now convinced that there will only be one Apple event for the remainder of the year.

Despite how little sense it makes, the iPad Pro, if it indeed exists, will be revealed in just a few hours from now.

New Product Red Apple Watch Sport band retail packaging leaked in photo

It's been long suspected that Apple would lend some stage time to the Apple Watch at today's big iPhone event, and this photo, first tweeted by Larry Greenburg, makes it more evident that that will be the case.

A new Product Red Apple Watch Sport band retail package was the focus of a somewhat blurry photo, but it definitely looks like the real deal. Of course, we've seen this band before, so it's not a huge surprise that we're seeing retail box photos so close to Apple's event. What could this mean for the rest of the rumored Apple Watch-centric releases at the event?

iPad Pro to start at $799 according to new report

Earlier today, we conjectured about the final price of the iPad Pro on Let's Talk Jailbreak, and I think we all agreed that $799 would be the entry level price point for Apple's new tablet. A new report from 9to5Mac happens to go along with those sentiments.

According to the report, the iPad Pro will start off at an entry level price of $799. The report also states that, instead of the entry level model starting out at 64GB as it was initially thought to have, the base model iPad Pro will start off at 32GB instead.

Twitter for iPad gets an Auto Layout-inspired responsive design

It's been a long time coming, but Twitter for iPad is no longer the outdated red-headed-stepchild that it once was. This evening, Twitter pushed an update to the official Twitter app, along with a blog post entitled: Building a more unified Twitter for iOS.

In the blog post, the folks at Twitter explain the design philosophy behind the new iPad app. "Starting today," the post explains, "iPad users will be able to create and see revamped quote Tweets, explore trending topics in search, visit product and place pages, and more."

This is accomplished by making Twitter a universal app, and incorporating adaptive UI, a methodology inspired by Apple's Auto Layout system, which allows for a responsive design that lets apps adapt to the size of the current device.

Report: iPhone 6s to feature untethered ‘Hey Siri’ functionality

Remember the invitation that Apple sent out to invitees for tomorrow's iPhone 6s event? The invitation contained the phrase "Hey Siri, give us a hint."

According to the Apple Insider's Mikey Campbell, this phrase alludes to a brand new feature shipping with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus—always-on "Hey Siri" functionality.

"Hey Siri" is a function that first debuted in iOS 8, which allows you to invoke Siri hands-free using only your voice. The only catch is that your device has to be plugged in and charging to take advantage of the feature. If Apple Insider's report is true, then the iPhone 6s will be able to use Hey Siri functionality in an untethered fashion.

A Periscope app is being developed for the new Apple TV

I think that there's enough smoke to state with confidence that a new Apple TV will be launched tomorrow, and it'll bring with it an SDK, which in turn means third-party apps on your TV screen.

As expected, we've yet to hear any developers go on record to state that they are in the process of making an app for Apple's soon-to-be-released set top box. But TechCrunch's Josh Constine has it on good authority that Twitter-owned Periscope, a live streaming app that allows users to broadcast from anywhere using their phone, is secretly building an app for the Apple TV.
