Crazy Rumor: Apple Television Launch Just a Few Months Away

There's rumors, and then there's crazy rumors. And this one definitely falls in the latter category. The folks over at TechnoBuffalo are reporting that Apple's TV set is much closer to launch than we previously thought.

Citing a "high-ranking source with a major electronics retailer," the site is claiming that the Cupertino company is looking to debut its rumored television set as early as April of this year...

Patent Shows Apple Working On Universal Touchscreen TV Remote

As noted by 9to5Mac, the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) published an interesting patent application today with Apple's name on it.

The filing pertains to a universal touch screen controller, capable of controlling TV sets and a range of other devices, lending at least some credibility to the recent rumors we've heard that Apple has a connected television in the works...

Foxconn Looking to Start iPad Production in Brazil Soon

After a rocky start in negotiations, it appears that Foxconn, a major Apple supplier, has finally received the tax terms it needed from the Brazilian government to start producing iPads in the South American country.

Believe it or not, getting Foxconn's Brazilian factory to start producing iPads is a big deal for both Apple and Apple fans in South America — it removes the need for costly important taxes that can sometimes double the cost of the tablet...

On Apple’s Efforts to Improve Supply Chain Conditions

The New York Times published an extensive 7-page report last night detailing Apple's failure to effectively pursue safer working conditions in its overseas manufacturing plants.

We knew that conditions were bad for workers inside the factories of companies like Foxconn and Wintek, but we thought they were getting better. But citing both past and current Apple executives, the NYT paints a bleak picture of Apple's efforts to improve the awful conditions of its supply chain workers...

Apple to Launch Major Employee Discount Program

A few days ago we told you that Tim Cook had sent out an email to Apple employees regarding a special Town Hall meeting yesterday. The CEO wanted to congratulate his team on its recent success, and discuss some "exciting new things going on at Apple."

As it turns out, 9to5Mac — who originally broke the story — has gotten word of at least one of the topics of the meeting. No, it's not a new iPad or an Apple TV set. Apparently Apple is planning to launch a major employee discount program later this year...

Tension Grows Between Apple and Google as Motorola Files iPhone Lawsuit

Reports are coming in that Motorola Mobility has just filed a significant lawsuit against Apple in the US over the illegal use of its intellectual property. Motorola believes that Apple is using its patents in both its iPhone 4S and iCloud products.

MM recently won an injunction against Apple late last year in a German court. And although the decision has yet to make an impact on Apple's sales in the country, it could certainly play a major part in Motorola's new lawsuit here in the States...

iPhone 4S Battery Improvement Tweak Proven Fake

Over the past week or so, there has been a lot talk regarding a recently-released iPhone 4S jailbreak tweak that supposedly fixes the handset's battery problem. We've neglected to mention the utility here on iDB for a couple reasons.

One, the tweak has only been available on the insanelyi repo — a Cydia repository known for hosting pirated applications. And two, it simply sounded too good to be true...

Yummy! These Apple Products Look Delicious

It appears that Apple's popular products haven't just "inspired" the competition, but they've also influenced a certain Taiwanese bakery. It's obvious that the cake-makers over at Comte have taken their packaging cues from the Cupertino company.

Their most popular product, the iFong, is a pineapple-flavored cake cut into 6 pieces and served up in an all-too-familiar iPhone-shaped box. But that's not all this bakery is offering...

Jailbreaking Could Become a Legal Violation This Year

Back on July 26th of 2010, the US government made the act of jailbreaking electronic devices legal by federal law. This cleared up a lot of the confusion surrounding jailbreaking, and opened the door for folks worried about its legality.

Over the last two years we've been enjoying this freedom, most recently hacking our iPhone 4S and iPad 2 devices. But according to the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), we could lose that freedom this year if we don't act...

Tim Cook Calls Special Town Hall Meeting for Apple Employees Tomorrow

Hot on the heels of Apple's blowout quarterly earnings report this afternoon, 9to5Mac is reporting that Tim Cook has sent an internal email out to Apple employees regarding the company's success.

In the memo, Cook congratulates his team on a record-setting quarter and thanks them for all of their hard work on Apple's new iBooks initiative. He also asks the employees to join him for a special meeting tomorrow at Apple's Town Hall...

Apple Sells Record 1.4 Million Apple TVs Last Quarter

About an hour ago, Apple announced its biggest quarter in company history. Tim Cook's team sold more iPhones and made more money than Apple ever has in a three month period.

Also on today's list of Apple's broken records is the amount of Apple TVs it sold during the holiday quarter. Apparently, the little $99 media box is a $100 million dollar product for the company...

Apple Now the Top Smartphone Manufacturer in the World

Earlier today we told you that iPhones made up over half of Verizon's smartphone sales last quarter, making Apple the top smartphone manufacturer on one of the world's largest wireless carriers.

But given Apple's record-breaking financial report today, it's achievements go far beyond that. With nearly 40 million iPhone's sold last quarter, Apple just became the top smartphone-maker in the world...
