Apple releases iOS 11.0.3 with minor bug fixes

Apple released iOS 11.0.3 on Wednesday as a minor update to the company's newest mobile operating system with small bug fixes and improvements targeting specific iPhone models.

In particular, the update sets its sights on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus handsets, but it can be installed on any supported Apple device.

This tweak integrates your Bluetooth device usage with Activator

Bluetooth-enabled devices are sometimes incredibly handy, but the process of connecting, disconnecting, and toggling between their connections through iOS can be a cumbersome experience.

A new jailbreak tweak dubbed Tooth by iOS developer CreatureSurvive, strives to fix this by making these tedious tasks both quicker and easier for everyone. It integrates with Activator, letting you perform these actions from virtually anywhere with nothing more than a gesture.

UpsideBoard enables ‘upside-down’ orientation on your iPhone’s Home screen

One of the minor details that set Plus-sized iPhones apart from the rest of Apple's lineup is the extra support for landscape orientation throughout iOS, which extends to unexpected places like the Home screen.

The iPad offers similar Home screen orientations and undoubtedly served as inspiration for Plus-sized handsets, but Apple’s tablets also accommodate for upside-down viewing, while Plus-sized iPhones don't. A new free jailbreak tweak called UpsideBoard by iOS developer ipad_kid changes that.

Tips for maximizing battery life on iOS 11

iOS 11 is Apple’s latest mobile operating system, but just like every Fall when a significant firmware update comes out, not all devices exhibit the best battery life after updating.

In this piece, we’ll discuss with you a plethora of ways to optimize your iPhone or iPad's battery life so that you spend less time tethered to the power outlet.

NotificationCenterXI ports the iOS 11 Notification Center experience to jailbroken devices

iOS 11 brings with it a whole host of changes, and one of the most notable right off the bat is the updated look and feel for Notification Center. Unfortunately for jailbreakers, upgrading is out of the question.

If you fall into that category, then new free jailbreak tweak dubbed NotificationCenterXI (iOS 10) by iOS developer LaughingQuoll might interest you. It ports the iOS 11 Notification Center experience to jailbroken devices, allowing jailbreakers to have their cake and eat it too.

Fixmoji lets you designate your favorite emojis in iOS without a jailbreak

If you use iOS' Emoji keyboard regularly, then you should know by now that Apple dedicates the left side of the interface to recently-used Emojis. While useful for some, others often wish they could dedicate this section to manually-designated ‘favorite’ Emojis instead.

Enter Fixmoji, a new third-party keyboard app developed by former jailbreak tweak creator Raviraj Minawala. This keyboard lets users configure a separate database of their favorite Emojis and access them anytime on demand.

Integrate Hastebin text sharing into iOS with ActiHastebin

Hastebin is an open-source alternative to the popular Pastebin website that lets you upload snippets of code or text online for more comfortable sharing. It can be a useful tool, so iOS developer ipad_kid came made a new free jailbreak tweak called ActiHastebin that makes sharing snippets with Hastebin even simpler for you power users out there.

ActiHastebin integrates with Activator, a well-established add-on for jailbroken devices. It’s straightforward to use and works smoothly, delivering the results you’d expect on an Apple device.

USB Type-C is great, but the standard isn’t perfect yet

USB Type-C is a forward-thinking I/O standard that aims to bundle both ease of use and versatility in one universal package. Not only is it becoming popular in the mobile device market, but it’s also finding its way to the game console and portable notebook markets among others.

If you own any of Apple’s new MacBooks or MacBook Pros, then you’re likely already accustomed to the USB-C life. While it takes a little bit of getting used to at first, it can be a smooth transition after some time. Nevertheless, I have a beef with the USB-C standard; at least in its current form.

This tweak rounds your App Switcher cards’ corners like on the iPhone X

After Craig Feherighi demoed the iPhone X for the first time at last month's keynote, it became evident that several changes to the iOS user interface would need to accommodate for the new edge-to-edge OLED display, its rounded corners, and the notch.

One of the differences was in the App Switcher where each of the cards exhibits heavily-rounded corners that match the aesthetic of the device's display. Other iPhone models don’t have as pronounced of roundness, but a new free jailbreak tweak called switcherRadii by iOS developer CreatureSurvive can replicate this effect on your non-X handset.

Apple closes the signing window for iOS 10.3.3 and 11.0

Apple on Wednesday stopped signing both iOS 10.3.3 and iOS 11.0, the first official public release of iOS 11 since the software came out of beta on September 19th. With this change, it's now impossible to downgrade iOS 11 devices back to iOS 10.

The company regularly stops signing older firmware versions to prevent downgrades and keep users on the latest firmware possible. It’s also a measure to thwart jailbreaking, which often requires an older firmware version where Apple hasn’t patched the vulnerabilities used in the jailbreak process.

SelfieTime, iPhone Cam for iPad, and other jailbreak tweaks to check out this weekend

The jailbreak community has been slower than usual following the new iPhone event just a couple of weeks ago, but that's not to say jailbreak developers aren't still brainstorming ways to improve iOS.

In this roundup, we'll talk about all the new jailbreak tweaks released throughout the last week. We'll start by showcasing our favorite tweaks, but we'll get to all the rest afterward.
