Apple TV+ orders a New England Patriots docuseries

The offering of Apple TV+ documentaries is about to grow stronger with the addition of “The Dynasty,” an upcoming new ten-part docuseries based on a best-selling book by Jeff Benedict. Featuring the NFL team the New England Patriots, the series will focus on the Tom Brady years when the former NFL player quarterbacked for the team.

From an announcement on the Apple TV+ Press website:

The 10-part docuseries is based on the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestselling book by author Jeff Benedict. With unprecedented access to the New England Patriots, Benedict spent two years inside the organization, and chronicled the rise and historic 20-year run of the Patriots during the Brady-Belichick-Kraft era.

More about “unprecedented access”:

The documentary series, directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Matthew Hamachek (“Tiger”), will go deeper, drawing on thousands of hours of never-before-seen video footage and audio files from the Patriots organization’s archive.

And:

The filmmakers have also been given access to the organization during the 2021 season and are conducting hundreds of interviews with past and present Patriots players, coaches and executives, along with league officials and the arch rivals of the most dominant sports dynasty of the 21st century.

“The Dynasty” is being made in association with NFL Films.

The ten-part show is executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes and Jenna Millman (“The First Wave”), along with Hamachek and Benedict. Miranda Johnson (“60 Days”) is co-executive producing.

It’s unclear when the forthcoming documentary show, hailing from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries, will be available to stream on Apple TV+.

Sports docuseries on Apple TV+

Apple is working on other original sports documentaries for its video-streaming service.

For instance, a new docuseries titled “They Call Me Magic” will premiere soon on the platform, featuring Magic Johnson. Another docuseries will chronicle the life and achievements of basketball sensation Makur Maker. A documentary around the World Surf League is also in the works. And let’s not forget about “Greatness Code,” a short-form unscripted series bringing untold stories from some of the world’s greatest athletes.
