This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup includes an app for creating 3D holograms, an app for recommending new dishes at restaurants, and an Awesome voice note-taker. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.
HoloBack
Have an iPhone X? Here is an interesting app worth checking out this weekend. It’s called HoloBack, and it allows you to create and share 3D hologram videos with your friends. Say Happy Birthday, show your excitement for an upcoming event—the possibilities here are endless. The app itself is fairly basic right now, and again you need a TrueDepth camera to create the hologram. Still, what a cool concept.
Likemeal
This app isn’t new, but if you like good food and aren’t aware of it, you have to check it out. Likemeal is a social network for lovers of delicious food. It helps you discover new places based on trusted recommendations, try new and unusual dishes that have been deemed tasty by experts, leave your own recommendations and even follow other food-lovers. No more “what’s good here?” Now you know.
Awesome Voice Notes
In search of a new voice notes app? Check out Awesome Voice Notes. I know, the name is a bit on the nose, but the app itself is worth a look. It has a sharp, minimal interface and does what you’d want it to: records voice notes with a single tap of a button. Features include an editable title and caption, a handy Today Widget, a voice-to-text transcription feature, and all notes are searchable by Siri.
Pilot Perils
Pilot Perils is a side-scrolling, flying action-adventure game set in a steampunk world full of floating islands and exotic steam-powered machines. Take command of a steampunk flying machine and pilot through physics-based challenges on your quest to retrieve the components of your stolen invention, which could just save the world. Free initial play, but some levels are hidden behind IAPs.
Hello Neighbor
Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor’s house to figure out what horrible secrets hiding in the basement. You play against an advanced AI that learns from your every move. Really enjoy climbing through that backwindow? Expect a bear trap there. Sneaking through the front door? Not anymore. This is another game that’s free to try, but IAPs unlock deeper levels.
