How to share what you see in your Apple Vision Pro to an external display

Learn how to let other people see what’s on your Apple Vision Pro virtual view by wirelessly mirroring the contents of your headset to an external display, such as a Smart TV, Apple TV, Mac, iPad, or iPhone.

Share Vision Pro view to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or another display like Smart TV

Apple Vision Pro is a highly personal device in the sense that only one person can see its screen when wearing it. As a result, it’s one of the best ways to watch something or work on a private project, even in public places.

However, there can be situations in your house or office where you’d like other people near you to also see what you’re looking at. For such occasions, visionOS supports screen mirroring that lets you broadcast your headset’s view to another iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or an AirPlay-supported device like a smart TV.

What you need

Here’s everything you need to share your Vision Pro view with the outside world:

An AirPlay device: iPhone running iOS 17.2 or later | iPad running iPadOS 17.2 or later | Most 2018 or newer Macs running macOS Monterey or later | Apple TV 2nd generation or later | or an AirPlay-supported smart TV or display.

Same Wi-Fi network: Make sure your Vision Pro and the receiving device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Bluetooth: Turn on Bluetooth on your Vision Pro and the receiving Apple device.

Activate AirPlay: Switch on AirPlay Receiver (or AirPlay) on the target display device:

  • iOS: Go to iPhone or iPad Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff and turn on AirPlay Receiver.

  • macOS: Go to System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff and turn on AirPlay Receiver. If your Mac is on macOS Monterey, go to System Preferences > Sharing and check the box for AirPlay Receiver.

  • tvOS: Go to Apple TV Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit and make sure AirPlay is On.

  • Smart TVs: The instructions for this will differ based on the TV manufacturer. But you should be able to find it somewhere in TV’s internal Settings.

Tip: Set “Allow AirPlay for” to “Anyone on the Same Network” or “Everyone” if you’re trying to cast your Vision Pro view to an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV that has a different Apple ID. You can select “Current User” if the Apple ID on Vision Pro and that device are the same.

Share your Vision Pro view to an external display

  1. Make sure you have followed the above requirements.
  2. Wear your Vision Pro and look up. Now, tap the downward arrow icon to open the Control Center.
  3. Tap the Control Center icon.
  4. Tap the two-square Mirror My View icon. It looks similar to the Screen Mirroring icon you see in your iOS Control Center.
  5. Select the AirPlay receiver device like an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or smart TV.

Note:

  • You will have to enter the password if you’ve turned on the ‘Require Password’ option in your AirPlay settings on your iOS, macOS, tvOS, or the AirPlay device.
  • You may have to accept the Vision Pro’s incoming screen mirroring request on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or smart TV to start seeing the view.

Tip: Need to change the audio output? You can use the Audio Routing option under the Mirror My View option in the visionOS Control Center.

Is the video output quality bad?

Your Vision Pro may look blurry on the external display. This is because the video from your Vision Pro can be shared to the outside display at only up to 720p resolution. Sadly, you can’t do anything to increase it to 1080p or 4K.

Manage notifications during view sharing

You can choose to show or hide the new incoming Vision Pro notifications on the external display. To manage this, go to visionOS Settings app > Notifications > Screen Sharing and turn on or off Allow Notifications.

Passwords are not shown on the external display

When you’re AirPlaying your Apple Vision Pro view to an external display and then type a password or passcode on your Vision Pro, it will not be shown on the outside display. This is similar to how the password entry screen is obscured on Vision Pro screenshots and screen recordings.

You can’t mirror protected videos

Movie or TV shows you play on Apple TV, Disney Plus, or other similar apps on Vision Pro will appear blacked out during AirPlay. This is because of copyright protections that prevent such content from being AirPlayed or captured by screenshots and screen recordings. However, you should be fine if you play a video in the Photos app or other apps that do not protect their playback.

Stop mirroring your Vision Pro

While wearing your Vision Pro, look up and tap the green downward arrow icon from the top of your virtual view. Now, tap Stop next to the View Mirroring option.
