Health accessory maker Withings, well-known for their HealthKit-compatible smart scales and vital-tracking devices, is taking advantage of CES to showcase their latest step forward in helping people manage their health.
Introducing BeamO, a 4-in-1 handheld at-home checkup device that’s capable of various bodily checks that can alert you to irregularities that may warrant a doctor visit.
According to Withings’ website, BeamO will feature the following functions, all in a small package that you can bring almost anywhere:
- Body Temperature via automatic temporal artery detection
- Digital Stethoscope to listen to the heart and lungs
- Medical-Grade ECG to detect possible cardiovascular issues at any time
- Blood Oxygen Level provides oxygen saturation which can help assess part of your respiratory system
If you’ve ever used one of Withings’ Smart Thermometers before, then the body temperature function will feel familiar. Apple Watch owners will also be familiar with what 1-lead ECG and blood oxygen tracking is like using HealthKit devices.
New to the table here is the digital stethoscope, which is a unique new feature that will give you more information about your heart’s aortic, mitral, and pulmonary valves to give you a better idea of heart health and to help you discover undiscovered murmurs. It can also listen for abnormal lung sounds.
All of these features will be logged into the Withings Health Mate app and integrate with Apple’s Health app on your iPhone. The device itself lasts 8 months on a charge and uses a USB-C connection to charge back up.
It’s still too early to tell when BeamO will be available to the market because it needs to pass the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s approval process, but the company is targeting the Summer of 2024 and expects a retail price of around $249.95.
