Updated meowbrek2 utility brings 4K device improvements & bootstrap capabilities

If you’ve been keeping up with the cacophony of news in the jailbreak community recently, then you may recall a project dubbed meowbrek2, a re-jailbreaking utility for the palera1n semi-tethered jailbreak for A9-A11 devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-17.x. In effect, meowbrek2 turns the jailbreak into a semi-untethered one on certain firmware versions that we’ll discuss below.

Just this weekend, meowbrek2 project lead developer @dora2ios released a third public beta of the utility via X (formerly Twitter) dubbed version 1.1.3-beta which appears to include even more improvements that users should take note of. The full change log, per the project’s GitHub page, can be found below:

– Added support for 4K devices
– Added bootstrap functionality
– Added uicache command
– Added bootstrap remover

dora2ios releases third meowbrek2 update.

As it would appear, the latest update brings further support for older 4K devices and focuses primarily on adding new functionality, including a bootstrap, a bootstrap remover, and the ability to run the uicache command.

If you’re an existing meowbrek2 user, then you can safely download and install the latest .tipa file over your existing installation by way of TrollStore. This will overwrite your existing installation with the latest features and improvements, ensuring that you get to take advantage of them.

Once you update, you’re probably going to want to reboot your device and re-jailbreak with the latest meowbrek2 application.

For those wondering, the meowbrek2 achieves its magic through the help of the kernel file descriptor (kfd) exploit. Currently, it only works with iOS & iPadOS versions 15.0-15.7.6, despite the kfd exploit’s support for iOS & iPadOS 16.0-16.5 & 16.6 beta 1. It remains to be seen if meowbrek2 will expand support for the newer versions.
