Capture, Peak, roger-roger, and other apps to check out this weekend

Welcome to the weekend, folks! It’s time for another Apps of the Week roundup, and we have some great picks for you. There is a notes app designed for speed, some beautiful health data widgets, and an app for more IRL meetups. And as always, we’ve selected a fun game for you to check out.

Capture – Quick Notes

As is most often the case, the best note-taking or GTD (getting things done) app, for you, is the one you’ll actually use. And if you don’t have one you are using right now, allow me to submit Capture as an option. Capture uses an innovative and intuitive design, combined with smart features, to turn your mobile device into a powerful thought organizer. That sounds like marketing gibberish, but you won’t know if it’s really effective unless you try it. It does offer easy export, so even if you don’t end up liking the app, you can easily move your content to another platform.

Peak: Fitness Widgets

I just have one question: are you hitting your peak? If you’re not sure, this app can help. It’s called Peak — hey, finally an app with an awesome name — and it enables you to build a custom dashboard of workout data via widgets. All of the data is pulled from the Health app, and that should include any other data shared from other apps that work with Apple Health. You can pick from a variety of metrics including steps, workouts, Activity Rings, and there are over 60 beautifully designed themes to choose from. My favorite feature? Year Overview—get a snapshot of your 2023 fitness journey. Now if only someone could make something like this for tacos.

roger-roger

Ugh, I hate when apps have weird names like roger-roger. Like how am I supposed to write that? Roger-roger? Roger Roger? R squared? Anyway, the idea behind R2 is that as we become more connected digitally, we grow more disconnected IRL, and it wants to change that by encouraging more IRL meetups between you and your close friends/family. You can share your location, quickly invite friends to meet up with you, and there is a special algorithm that will buzz you when your friends are nearby—something like “Hey, Ted is just a few blocks over, meet up with him for coffee?” This is obviously aimed a specific type of user, but hey, if you live near family and you’re always saying “we should totally hang out more,” this could certainly help hold you to that.

Subliminal Words

If we’re being honest, the game you should be playing this weekend, if you haven’t already, is one of these GTA Definitive releases. There’s Vice City, GTA III, San Andreas; they’re all like $20 to buy, but I believe they are free to play if you have a Netflix subscription. Anyway, due to the violence and higher price tag, I went another route: Subliminal Words. It’s a word puzzle game—yeah! There are 100 levels, and at each level you must discover the hidden words to solve the puzzle. It’s relaxing, it has a clean and intuitive interface, and it tells a story along the way. Sounds like the perfect weekend game to me!
