Announced on October 17, 2023, the third-generation Apple Pencil has a hidden USB-C port behind a non-removable sliding cap mechanism. It also has a flat side to attach magnetically to an iPad’s side for storage. The accessory supports the Hover feature on M2 models of the iPad Pro for previewing drawing actions.

An Apple Newsroom announcement confirms the USB-C Apple Pencil is available to purchase in 33 countries, including the United States, from the company’s stores and authorized resellers. Orders placed today will arrive as soon as November 3.

The USB-C Apple Pencil will land on store shelves starting this week. At $79, it’s the most affordable stylus Apple has produced, putting it in the same or similar price bracket as styluses from other makers, like Logitech’s Crayon. On the downside, the affordable price of the USB-C Pencil comes at the expense of some features.

For example, pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing and charging and the double-tap gesture for quickly switching between drawing tools are unsupported.
