Redesigned Apple Maps in Denmark and Greece brings the Google Street View-like Look Around feature, AR walking directions, improved navigation and other perks,
Customers in Denmark and Greece can fire up the Maps app on their iPhone, iPad or Mac to try out new features without updating their device. The redesigned app uses in-house data collected by Apple’s LiDAR-equipped vehicles.
As a result, customers in Denmark and Greece now enjoy improved navigation with much more detailed views of roads, buildings, parks and airports. There are also many custom-designed 3D models of famous landmarks, immersive turn-by-turn walking directions in augmented reality and other perks.
In addition, cycling directions and the cool Look Around feature, which provides street-level imagery, are now available country-wide in Denmark and Greece. The improvements for public transport navigation in Denmark include finding nearby stations more easily, the ability to fix preferred routes, and more.

Detailed 3D objects are available for significant landmarks like the Glyptoteket (Glyptotheque), Statens Museum for Art (State Museum of Art), Botanical Have (Botanical Garden), Nyhavn (New Harbor), SMK art museum, Egeskov Slot (Egeskov Castle) and more. While navigating, natural language guidance produces audible instructions that are easier to understand, like “Turn left at the next traffic lights.”
Roadway guidance helps users avoid taking wrong turns or getting lost. It ensures that the car is in the correct lane before turning or entering a motorway. Multi-stop route planning allows users to plan up to 15 stops in advance and automatically sync routes to iPad and iPhone from Mac when they’re ready to go.
The new Maps features in iOS 17 are supported in Denmark and Greece, like sharing your estimated arrival time with real-time updates, downloading regions for offline navigation, reporting accidents, road incidents or speed control using Siri, etc.
Enhanced Maps expanding to other countries
Apple Maps expert Justin O’Beirne notes that Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates will likely get an improved Maps app as Apple’s vehicles recently surveyed those countries.
The Cupertino tech giant has been collecting in-house mapping data for five years. The redesigned Maps experience is also available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany and other countries.
So far, the new Apple Maps data and features are available in 35 countries, listed on the company’s iOS and iPadOS Feature Availability webpage.
O’Beirne says the Apple Maps data currently covers 20.3 percent of Earth’s land area and 11.8 percent of the global population. So, after more than ten years, Apple still has work to do before it catches up to Google Maps.
