Marker text editing enhancement tweak updated to v2.0 with rootless iOS 15 & 16 jailbreak support

Marker, a popular jailbreak tweak by iOS developer MiRO92 that improves the text editing experience on jailbroken iPhones, has been updated to version 2.0 with support for iOS 15 and 16, including rootless jailbreaks such as Dopamine and palera1n.

The major update was announced by the developer on /r/jailbreak this week, noting that it not only added support for the latest jailbreaks, but also incorporated much-needed bug fixes and improvements that will ensure a smoother user experience.

So what is Marker? It’s an alternative to the popular SwipeSelection jailbreak tweak that makes it easier to select and modify bodies of text or move the cursor around in less time without the pains of the cumbersome stock experience.

Here’s the developer’s spiel:

What is Marker? For those who haven’t heard of Marker yet, let me introduce you to this revolutionary tweak. Marker is designed to make text editing on iOS devices a breeze. If you’ve ever struggled with cursor control or text selection, Marker is here to save the day!

Effortless Text Editing: With Marker, moving the cursor is as simple as dragging your finger left or right on the keyboard. It’s smooth, precise, and completely customizable to suit your editing style.

Intuitive Text Selection: Selecting text has never been easier. Whether you prefer holding the Delete or Shift keys and swiping left or right or swiping directly on the keyboard to start selecting, Marker caters to your preferences. Choose your preferred activation method from the settings and take full control of your text editing experience.

Why Marker? You might be wondering why I chose to create a new tweak instead of sticking with SwipeSelection. The truth is, SwipeSelection’s code was outdated and caused various issues. That’s why Marker was born – a fresh start with new techniques and code, ensuring better performance and a more enjoyable text editing journey for all users.

Marker not only plays nicely with the keyboard’s native swipe to type feature, but also with many other keyboard-centric jailbreak tweaks.

As we showed you in our original review post prior to the v2.0 update, Marker puts a preference pane in the Settings app where users can configure a variety of options to suit their needs:

Marker options to configure.

Among the things you can do here are:

  • Toggle Marker on or off on demand
  • Choose an Activation method for using Marker:
    • Swipe from the keyboard’s edges
    • Swipe somewhere inside the keyboard
  • Choose an Activation area:
    • All keyboard area only for moving the cursor
    • All keyboard area only for selecting text
    • Top keyboard area for moving the cursor AND bottom keyboard area for selecting text
    • Top keyboard area for selecting text AND bottom keyboard area for moving the cursor
  • Adjust the cursor speed via a slider
  • Adjust the aviation distance via a slider
  • Adjust keyboard area settings:
    • Toggle area indicators on or off on demand
    • Adjust the top area parameters with + and – buttons
  • Blacklist certain keyboards
  • Select text with the delete key
  • Select text with the shift key
  • Disable Apple’s native Trackpad feature
  • Enable or disable the keyboard fading effect
  • Display the selection-based Action Menu post-text selection
  • Reset all settings to their defaults
  • Respring your device to save any changes you’ve made

The different activation options help make this tweak more compatible with the stock keyboard features, which means you can have your cake and eat it too.
