Plampy Settings provides a fresh new look for the Settings app on MacDirtyCow devices

Just a couple of weeks ago, we showed you an add-on for MacDirtyCow devices called Plampy UI by YangJii that enabled a spiffy new look and feel for the Control Center user interface by way of new icon glyphs.

Plampy Settings UI.

This week, the same developer has just released Plampy Settings that things a similar aesthetic to the icons in your Settings app — this gives you not only a better aesthetic, but one that’s consistent with the Control Center changes you may have already made.

As you can see in the screenshot examples above, Plampy Settings replaces the icons to the left of each preference pane in the primary interface. It works a lot like a theme, except that making these modifications doesn’t require a jailbreak.

MacDirtyCow add-ons like Plampy UI require iOS or iPadOS 15.0-16.1.2 to work, but because they don’t require a jailbreak, they can be installed even on Apple’s newest devices. This works because the MacDirtyCow exploit can read and write to system kernel memory.

Interestingly, many MacDirtyCow add-ons are now gaining support for firmware up to and including iOS 16.5 (and 16.6 beta 1) with the help of another kernel memory read/write exploit called kfd. It remains to be seen if this is a possibility with Plampy.

Those interested in giving Plampy Settings a try can download it for free from the Misaka package manager app for MacDirtyCow devices. If you aren’t already taking advantage of Misaka, then you can follow our walkthrough and tutorial to learn how.
