A bigger iMac with a screen over 30 inches is reportedly in the works

Apple has reportedly kicked off early development work on a new desktop computer—a bigger iMac with a screen measuring “over 30 inches” diagonally.

A bigger iMac would be the perfect desktop computer for those dreaming about the Mac Studio + Studio Display combo but can’t afford it.

Apple currently offers the 24-inch iMac featuring the M1, its first Mac silicon, but hasn’t updated the computer with its latest chips.

A bigger-than-30-inches iMac is in the works

Gurman wrote in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg that new iMacs with 24-inch screens (like the current models) are coming sometime in 2024, probably featuring the company’s upcoming M3 processors.

“The company is also conducting early work on an iMac with a screen over 30 inches, I’m told,” he said without offering additional tidbits about a bigger iMac.

The 24-inch iMac is currently Apple’s only model. It was announced in April 2021 and is available in a range of vibrant colors. The iMac Pro and the Intel-based 27-inch iMac were discontinued following the 24-inch Apple silicon iMac.

A bunch of devices on Apple’s 2023-24 roadmap

Gurman has learned that Apple is developing more than a dozen devices to be released in 2023 and 2024. In the fall, the company should launch the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra alongside two Apple Watch Series 9 models.

There are also two new MacBook Airs on the roadmap for later this year or early 2024, plus a new M3-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro and updated versions of the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models running the M3 Pro and ‌M3‌ Max.

Other planned refreshes include a new iPad Air, OLED-based iPad Pros, a new Apple TV with updated hardware and the third-generation AirPods Pro. “New home equipment such as smart displays” is also in the works, Gurman has it.
