The rumored Action button may have prompted Apple to create new button press combinations to force restart or reboot your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max.

  • The iPhone 15 Pro models are widely expected to swap the Mute switch for a multi-purpose Action button like on the Apple Watch Ultra.
  • As a result, Apple is said to have created new button press combinations for shutting down and force restarting the device.

How will you force restart an iPhone 15 Pro?

According to a tipster behind the Twitter account @analyst941, the existing Volume + Side button press combinations won’t power off or force-restart your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. “The sequence remains, but the combination will be changed to action and power button,” the tipster explained on Twitter.

To refresh your memory, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are rumored to replace the current silent switch with a clickable Action button.

The Action button might be capacitive and is thought to take advantage of force sensors to detect the amount of pressure applied. Pressure sensing is said to enable the user to invoke different features of the stock Camera app on the iPhone 15 Pros, like taking photos, shooting video and focusing the camera.

How trustworthy is @analyst941?

The same tipster has recently leaked iOS 17 details and tidbits, including features like active iPhone widgets with buttons, slides and other interactive elements.

They also correctly predicted the Dynamic Island feature before the iPhone 14 unveiling. On the other hand, @analyst941 lacks an established track record, so its claimed info about the Action button shouldn’t be taken for granted.

How do you force restart current iPhones?

Performing a regular restart of any modern iPhone with Face ID requires simultaneously pressing and holding the Volume Up or Volume Down button and the Side button, which displays the shutdown screen.

Similarly, to force restart an iPhone (also known as hard resetting), you must quickly press and release the Volume Up button, then quickly press and release the Volume Down button and finally press and hold the Side button until the device reboots.
