PSA: palera1n-c doesn’t yet support iOS 16.4, but it should in the future

With the official public release of iOS & iPadOS 16.4 Monday afternoon for all iPhone and iPad users, it seemed like an important time to remind everyone that the palera1n-c jailbreak tool does not yet support this firmware.

Palera1n team warns that the palera1n jailbreak doesn’t yet support iOS 16.4.

The palera1n team confirmed this fact on Twitter only minutes after iOS & iPadOS 16.4 dropped, as shown in the screenshot of their Tweet above.

Work is being done for palera1n-c to support iOS & iPadOS 16.4 in the future, however there is currently no ETA for when that might happen. In addition to implementing initial support, the team will need to do testing to ensure stability.

While the palera1n-c jailbreak tool is powered by the unpatchable checkm8 hardware-based bootrom exploit for A9-A12 chip-equipped devices, it’s important to emphasize that there are other internal workings of the jailbreak besides checkm8 that aren’t yet compatible with iOS & iPadOS 16.4 at this time. This is why palera1n-c needs to be updated to work with Apple’s latest firmware; checkm8 in and of itself is not and wont ever be patched.

So if you’re using a firmware prior to iOS or iPadOS 16.4 on your A9-A11 chip-equipped device, then we would strongly recommend staying there at least until the palera1n team confirms support for iOS & iPadOS 16.4. Otherwise, you won’t be able to jailbreak until support is added.
