Latest updates to TrollStore perma-signing utility add support for more devices, bug fixes

On Friday, we showed our readers the brand-new TrollStore perma-signing utility by iOS developer opa334 for jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.8.1 devices and non-jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 devices. Since the initial release, TrollStore has received a bevy of small, albeit important updates that you won’t want to miss if you’ve started using it.

The perma-signing capabilities take advantage of known bugs in Apple’s mobile operating systems, and by using it, you can sideload apps and sign them indefinitely without having to re-sign them every 7 days (for free Apple developer accounts) or every year (for paid developer accounts). This will be especially handy for those who sideload jailbreak tools, but also for any other apps that they don’t get from the App Store.

Since the initial release, a series of updates to the TrollStore utility have included the following changes and/or improvements:

Version 1.0.1 – released on Friday, September 2nd

This update introduced initial support for iPad Pro models sporting the A12Z chip and iPads sporting the A10 chip. In addition to adding support for more devices, the change log cites the following enhancements:

  • Prevent opening iCloud Drive files, as this causes issues
  • Fix a bug where TrollStore would crash upon installing large apps
  • Display more detailed error messages when installations fail
  • Address a bug where TrollStore would error out when installing apps with app IDs that already exist

Version 1.0.2 – released on Saturday, September 3rd

This update brought support for even more iPad models, although the exact types have not been disclosed at this time. The developer released a tool that can help him add support for more iPad models, but users must run the tool and follow the instructions published on GitHub to get support added. Additionally, the following changes are present in this release:

  • Reworked UI cache code to make it work better with apps installed via TrollStore
  • Add option to forcefully install apps that throw the ‘already installed’ error
  • Fix miscellaneous bugs

Version 1.0.3 – released on Saturday, September 3rd

This update added a small list of bug fixe and improvements, which include the following:

  • Fix a bug affecting the installation of TrollStore
  • No longer require the installation of ldid to dump entitlements
  • Use ldid -s flag instead of -S -M
  • Add option to uninstall TrollStore to the persistence helper

Version 1.0.4 – released on Saturday, September 3rd

This update is a small one that simply addresses an issue where the ididless entitlement dumping code wouldn’t work on non-FAT binaries.

Version 1.0.5 – released on Sunday, September 4th

The latest update at the time of this writing, this release adds support for iPads donning the A15 chip and also brings support for the iPod touch 7th generation. Other enhancements to TrollStore in this update include the following:

  • Notification permissions now enabled for most apps installed via TrollStore
  • Fix an issue with uninstalling apps that generally have weird file permissions, such as unc0ver
  • Fix an issue with installing .ipa files that are present on iCloud Drive

As with any software release, iDB recommends that prospective users download and install the latest version of the TrollStore app, as this release provides all the latest improvements that will provide the best user experience. The developer has said that updating to the latest version of TrollStore can be done OTA for existing users as well.
