An analyst predicts a $100 price increase for the iPhone 14 Pro models

Who’s ready for a price increase for the iPhone 14 Pro models, with the upcoming devices potentially costing $100 more vs. their iPhone 13 Pro counterparts?

  • What’s happening? Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives has predicted in a new research note to clients that the flagship iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models could cost $100 more because prices of components have gone up.
  • Why care? Even Apple’s affluent customers and people with disposable income will not like paying more for these upcoming phones, especially in the face of the inflation and looming recession eroding people’s buying power.

An iPhone 14 Pro price increase predicted

“While the base iPhone will stay at the same price we believe a $100 price increase on the iPhone 14 Pros is likely in store given component price increases as well as added functionality on this new release,” reads Ive’s note seen by MacRumors.

If the iPhone 14 Pro models turn out to be $100 pricier as the analyst predicted, shoppers on tight budgets would be wise to consider one of the non-Pro models.

By comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999 in the United States while the base iPhone 13 Pro Max model is $1,099.

A Hollywood camera in your pocket

But if you really, really want “Hollywood in your pocket,” as Apple’s ad for the iPhone 13 Pro puts it, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to bring the biggest camera jump yet for the Apple smartphone.

Aside from better cameras, the iPhone 14 Pros should run Apple’s upocming A16 Bionic chip whilst replacing the notch with a combination of a pill-shaped cutout for a TrueDepth camera system and a circular cutout to house a selfie camera.

More $$$? More storage? Or both?

Both Pro models of the iPhone 14 should sport a brand-new 48-megapixel main sensor out the back capable of shooting 8K video, according to Ming-Chi Kuo who is the most reliable of Apple analysts out there. The new sensor is said to make the already massive camera hump even more prominent.

Kuo also recently suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro models could be more expensive than their iPhone 13 Pro counterparts, but wouldn’t say by how much. On the other hand, the iPhone maker could appease customers by doublin base storage on the iPhone 14 Pros.

When will Apple unveil the iPhone 14 family?

Apple has not yet formally announced the iPhone 14 event date. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman claims to have learned from his usually well-informed sources that both the iPhone 14 family and the new Apple Watch Series 8 models will be unveiled three weeks from today, on Thursday, September 7.

Retail availability should start the following week on Friday, September 16. Gurman says this will another online-only presentation rather than an in-person event.
