  • What’s happening? Apple may have set its first fall event to unveil the iPhone 14 family for Wednesday, September 7, precisely three weeks from today.
  • Why care? The iPhone is a crucial product for Apple and the iPhone 14 Pros are rumored to bring major photography updates with a new 48-megapixel sensor and 8K video recording. Or maybe you fancy one of three new Apple Watch models rumored to launch this year, including a rugged model with a titanium casing, a body temperature sensor and expanded fitness features?

Apple could set the iPhone 14 event for September 7

The information comes via Mark Gurman, a well-informed Apple reporter. According to his write-up on Bloomberg, the iPhone 14 announcement will happen on September 7, with the devices arriving in stores the following week on Friday, September 16. Of course, this information isn’t official until the event becomes official on the Apple Events webpage.

Gurman says that this will be another online-only product blitz, with a pre-taped presentation broadcast via Apple’s homepage, its YouTube channel and the TV app.

The company intends to stream the event online — rather than holding an in-person gathering — continuing an approach it adopted at the start of the pandemic. Apple launches are highly polished affairs, and employees have already begun recording the presentation’s segments over the past few weeks.

We’ll publish a tutorial explaining how to follow along once details are available.

What will Apple announce on September 7?

This is primarily going to be an iPhone event so all eyes will be on the iPhone 14 family, which should include two 6.1-inch devices and two 6.7-inch ones.

No iPhone mini-sized device is expected this year. Aside from the new phones, we’re also holding our breath for the Apple Watch Series 8 with three new models this year: the regular Series 8 update, the next Apple Watch SE and the rumored rugged model. Apple could also introduce the next AirPods Pro at the event.

What about iPads and Macs?

As for other updates like new Apple silicon Macs and iPads, the company usually unveils those products at a separate event in October. We believe this year will be the same as prior years. So, two events: one in September and another in October. Read: How to create Windows-like app icons on your Mac desktop
