Apex Legends Mobile brings its battle royale shenanigans to iOS and Android on May 17

Way, way back in April of last year we heard that Respawn Entertainment and EA had aspirations to bring its ridiculously popular battle royale game, Apex Legends, to mobile platforms at some point in the future. And, after a lengthy wait, we finally know when the game’s going to launch. And it’s soon!

As you already figured out, Apex Legends Mobile is set to launch on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Which is basically right around the corner. So for the folks who have been eagerly anticipating jumping into the next match right from their mobile device, the wait is finally almost over.

EA and Respawn Entertainment opened beta testing for the game last year, and apparently things have gone pretty well! The title offers touch-optimized controls so players can control each Legend without needing an external controller. As for the game itself, it looks pretty close to what players have been experiencing on PC and consoles for quite some time already, which is good.

Apex Legends Mobile is kicking things off with season 1 on May 17. (In comparison, the main title just launched season 13 this week.) The mobile version of the popular battle royale game will retain the three-player squad action, so no major change there, either.

Per the beta FAQ’s website, here are the recommended minimum requirements for iOS:

  • iPhone 6S or later
  • OS version: 11.0 or later
  • CPU: A9
  • 4 GB free space
  • At least 2GB RAM

And here are the recommended minimum requirements for Android for good measure:

  • Soc: Snapdragon 435/ Hisilicon Kirin 650/ Mediatek Helio P20/ Exynos 7420
  • Android 6.0
  • Open GL 3.1 or higher
  • 4 GB free space
  • At least 2 GB RAM

This is a big moment for Respawn Entertainment, to be sure, but also for EA in general because it’s likely going to bring in a lot of money for the company. Apex Legends Mobile will be free-to-play, just like the PC and console counterpart. But there will obviously be a variety of different in-game content to buy for the players who want to indulge.

As far as which Legends will be available to play at launch, it appears those will be: Wraith, Gibraltar, Lifeline, Bloodhound, Pathfinder, Caustic, Bangalore, Mirage, and Octane. But there will be plenty of new heroes (new heroes to mobile, mind) to choose from down the road as Respawn Entertainment adds to the roster.

So, circle those calendars Legends, because the experience is coming soon to your phones and tablets.
