Watch the trailer for the female-driven Apple TV+ anthology series ‘Roar’

Way back in March of 2021, we heard that Apple had secured a female-driven anthology series called Roar for Apple TV+. The upcoming show will focus on telling “darkly comic feminist fables,” and, since it’s an anthology series, it will tell a variety of different stories across its first season. What’s more, it has a pretty stacked cast and talented folks behind the cast, too.

The series was created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, both of which created the hit Netflix series GLOW. The anthology series is based on the book of short stories written by Cecelia Ahern. The series will have eight episodes in the first season, and each episode will be 30 minutes in length.

Roar is set to star Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut, Big Little Lies), Cynthia Erivo (Widows, The Outsider), Merritt Wever (Unbelievable), and Alison Brie (GLOW). On top of that, we learned in November of last year that Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Meera Syal (Yesterday), Kara Hayward (Moonrise Kingdom), and Fivel Stewart (Atypical) have enlisted with the project.

Here’s Apple’s description of the series, which accompanied the official trailer today:

Based on the book by best-selling author Cecelia Ahern and led by a star-studded cast of female talent in front of and behind the camera, Roar explores female experiences that many women have but rarely talk about. Through these 8 stories, each episode uses magical realism and delivers an insightful, poignant, and sometimes hilarious portrait of what it means to be a woman today.

Roar will premiere on Apple TV+ Friday, April 15, 2022. Are you going to be checking this one out?
