Apple TV+ presents the official trailer for murder-mystery series ‘The Afterparty’

The Afterparty, a murder-mystery series that’s coming soon to Apple TV+, has felt like it’s been in development for a long while now. At least on Apple TV+’s slate for that long, at least. But we know it’s set to premiere on the streaming service in January of next year, so it’s finally time to really start drumming up attention.

Not that Apple has completely dropped the ball in that regard. We did first hear about the project from Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie) back in June of last year. But, over the last couple months or so, Apple has been drawing attention to the project.

Last month, for instance, we got our first taste of the upcoming series thanks to a teaser trailer. That showed us the primary cast, which includes Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Sam Richardson (Veep, the upcoming Hey, Jack! The Kindness Show), Zoë Chao (Love Life), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors), Ben Schwartz (Space Force), Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag), Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), and John Early (Search Party).

This time around we finally have the official trailer for the murder-mystery. This one gives us more of the story, but, more than that, a look at how that story is going to be presented. Along with the voice over from Haddish, we also get to see how those “mind movies” will play out. Which will include at least one musical episode, apparently.

The driving force of the series will be that every episode will show off the same night, the night of the murder — but from a different character’s perspective:

The Afterparty is a murder-mystery comedy set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each of the eight episodes will feature a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.

We don’t have much longer to wait for this one to premiere. Apple TV+ has given it the green light to start streaming on Friday, January 28, 2022. There will be eight episodes total in the first season. The first three episodes will be available to binge on day one.

Miller co-created the series, is also serving as director and executive producer.
