New countries where Apple Music on Google Nest is available

A support document on the Apple website clarifies that Apple Music streaming is now available on Google Assistant-enabled devices in the following five additional countries:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • India
  • Mexico
  • South Korea

If you own a Google Nest speaker like (Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max) or other Assistant-enabled smart speakers and displays, you can now invoke Google Assistant to request a song from Apple Music. This integration supports other features, like searching and playing songs, albums and playlists with your voice. You can even use Google Assistant to play music by genre, mood or activity.

How to set up Apple Music on Nest speakers

A post on the official Google Canada blog explains that you must link your Apple Music account in Google’s Home app for this integration to work.

  1. Launch the Google Home app on your iPhone or Android device
  2. In the Google Home app, choose “Settings”
  3. Touch the option labeled “Music”
  4. Hit the Link icon next to Apple Music under the heading “More music services”
  5. Choose the “Link Account” option
  6. Sign in with the Apple ID that you use with Apple Music
  7. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete setup

Now you can queue up playlist, artist, or any of the Apple Music Radio stations to play over your connected Google Nest or Assistant device.

But wouldn’t it be great if you could omit the “on Apple Music” part from your voice requests? Well, you can if you change the default music service on your Google device.

How to set Apple Music as Google Nest’s default music service

You must manually set Apple Music as the default music service in Google Home.

  1. Launch the Google Home app on your iPhone or Android device
  2. In the Google Home app, choose “Settings”
  3. Touch the option labeled “Music”
  4. Choose Apple Music under the heading “Your music services”

Apple Music launched integration on Google Nest in December 2020, with the initial rollout limited to the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan.
