Apple TV+ documentary “The Line” gets a release date

“The Line” is a four-part series, with all of the episodes arriving simultaneously on November 19, 2021, on Apple TV+. The limited series examines the moral ambiguities of war as embodied by the 2018 case in which a US Navy SEAL platoon accused Eddie Gallagher, its chief, of war crimes. The case filed as the biggest war crimes trial in a generation, blurring the line between right and wrong.

But first, watch the official trailer for “The Line,” embedded right ahead.

What’s “The Line” about?

From a press release published on the Apple Newsroom website:

Featuring exclusive interviews with Gallagher, his wife Andrea, members of SEAL Team 7 who accused their chief, journalist Dave Philipps, former Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer and more, the docuseries is a raw look inside Seal Team 7 and the deployment that pushed the bonds of brotherhood to their limits. Told through first-person accounts and never-before-seen footage gathered by the SEALs during their controversial tour in Mosul, Iraq, “The Line” hunts for the truth behind the events that led to one of the highest profile war crimes trial in recent history, revealing a nation deeply divided over how we fight war.

The docuseries is based on a true-crime podcast that arrived in April 2021. All episodes of “The Line” have been produced by Jigsaw Productions and are currently available on Apple Podcasts, hosted by Dan Taberski.

“The Line” is produced by Doug Shultz and executive produced by showrunner Brad Hebert, Alex Gibney, Jeff Zimbalist, Michael Zimbalist, Stacey Offman and Richard Perello. Doug Shultz and Jeff Zimbalist serve as directors on the series.

Podcasts promoting Apple TV+ content

Apple is no stranger to augmenting some of the shows on Apple TV+ with companion podcasts. Several Apple TV+ shows have companion podcasts available, some of which like “For All Mankind” and others also include augmented reality experiences.

Apple is aware companion podcasts help generate interest for the shows they’re attached to. That said, however, “The Line” is especially interesting in that the series marks the first time an Apple original podcast has promoted its original Apple TV+ content.
