Apple TV+ shares trailer for the animated short film ‘Blush’ ahead of October 1 premiere

Some partnerships take time before the fruits of the effort come to life. In this case, it’s the multi-year partnership between Apple and Skydance Animation. The two companies announced the deal back in February of this year, and it wasn’t until April that we saw the first look at an upcoming short film called Blush.

Today, we get the first official trailer for the animated short film. It measures in at just over a minute in length, which makes sense considering it’s not a full length feature. Still, even with the short runtime we get to see plenty of beautiful footage and a grasp on the story itself. The short film will make its debut on Apple TV+ on October 1, 2021.

Blush tells the story of a stranded horticulturist-astronaut’s chances for survival after he crash lands on a desolate dwarf planet. Everything looks all doom and gloom for the lost traveler until a being appears and, ultimately, shows the astronaut that even in the most troubling of situations there is still hope. Here’s the trailer:

Blush is written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Joe Mateo (Big Hero 6). Mateo apparently developed the film right alongside Skydance Animation right from the get-go. It’s being produced by Heather Schmidt Feng Yanu (Toy Story). John Lasseter (Toy Story) is serving as an executive producer on the project as well.

Skydance Animation is working on other projects as well that will eventually launch on Apple TV+. There are two feature films, Spellbound and Luck, as well as an animated TV series called The Search of WondLa. Unfortunately we don’t know when those will launch just yet.

What do you think of Blush based on this trailer? Will you be checking it out when it premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday, October 1?
