AirTags launch reportedly ‘still on for March’

The AirTags, the Tile-like tracking device Apple has been working on for quite some time, are still not official. But the rumor mill refuses to give up on them. And now we have yet another launch window to look ahead to.

According to a tweet from serial leaker Jon Prosser, Apple is still hard at work on the tracking device. He says that he hasn’t heard “of any further delays”, so that’s potentially good news if it actually pans out. As for a release date? Prosser says the AirTags are “still on for March”, which means we’re probably around a month away from the tracking devices becoming official.

Maybe.

We’ve been hearing about AirTags for over a year now. They were expected to arrive sometime in 2020, but that obviously didn’t pan out. There was even an expectation that they’d be unveiled alongside the iPhone 12 lineup. But we’re a couple of months into 2021 and there’s nothing official quite yet.

The March timeline is interesting, though. Prosser also states that the new iPad Pro is expected to arrive sometime in the same month, so we could be looking at a spring event. Or Apple may just launch both with press releases and call it good. But that March date does fly in the face of a recent report that saw third-party accessory makers readying for an October launch.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next. But if March is the month to look forward to, if you’re looking forward to AirTags at all, then we don’t have long to wait.
