Apple is retiring the Music Memos app

Way, way back in 2016, Apple launched an app called “Music Memos”. It was designed for musicians to capture song ideas right on their iPhone.

Now, years later, it’s time to say goodbye to that app. Apple has confirmed that it is sunsetting the Music Memos app, and will instead focus entirely on the Voice Memos app instead. Apple released a support document on the matter today, which states that Music Memos won’t be updated beyond version 1.0.7. What’s more, users won’t be able to download it from the App Store after March 1, 2021.

However, there are some caveats if you simply love the Music Memos app:

The Music Memos app won’t be updated after Music Memos version 1.0.7, and you won’t be able to download it after March 1, 2021. If you have an iPhone with iOS 14 or an iPad with iPadOS 14, you can continue to use Music Memos. And if you’ve previously downloaded the app, you can still access it from your App Store purchase history. But you should export your Music Memos recordings to your Voice Memos library to make sure you keep all of your recordings.

However, as noted above, the app is no longer going to be getting any new software updates from this point on.

Apple updated Music Memos to version 1.0.7 today, which adds the ability to export Music Memos recordings to the Voice Memos app. Apple suggests all Music Memos users do this, even if they plan on still using the Music Memos app.

Were you a fan of the Music Memos app? Will you be using the Voice Memos app from here on out?
