Photographer Austin Mann takes the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera system for a spin in Zion National Park

We knew it was coming, and photographer Austin Mann has delivered, posting his impressions of the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s camera system today.

As is par for the course, Mann visited a gorgeous location to show off the iPhone’s camera(s). Back in October, for instance, the professional photographer visited Glacier National Park in Montana with the iPhone 12 Pro. And now, Mann published his feedback about the iPhone 12 Pro Max. He took the phone and its impressive camera system to Zion National Park this time around, which is in the state of Utah.

The results, as usual, are spectacular:

As we heard in the reviews for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the camera system isn’t much different from the iPhone 12 Pro. However, the changes Apple made to the telephoto camera, and the switch to a larger sensor, does result in some impressive photos. However, in most cases with optimal lighting, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max shoot photos with similar results.

I knew the Max would be a great camera and I loved shooting the photos above, but I was really curious to learn if the Max hardware upgrades would be worth carrying the larger device even though I definitely prefer the smaller size of the already powerful iPhone 12 Pro.

I shot in tons of different lighting scenarios, and frankly in many of the scenes both cameras rendered a beautiful image and I could barely see a difference between iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

A couple of different results for low-light photography can be seen below, both of which showcase the difference in the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The first, an indoors shot with candlelight and shot in-hand:

And here’s one shot on a tripod:

The photos Mann takes with the iPhone 12 Pro Max are stunning, to say the least. And it’s absolutely worth going over to his site to take a look at the other shots he published today. I’ll share a couple more below, though.

And one more, for good measure, with a last remark from Mann himself:

All in all, this was one of the most unique and beautiful hikes I’ve ever been on. You really should go experience the splendor for yourself — but for now, the iPhone 12 Pro Max served as an excellent camera to capture and share this adventure with you.
