Apple Watch Series 6 features an always-on altimeter

Despite a yearly update schedule, Apple continues to find new ways to improve the Apple Watch. This time around, it’s a new altimeter in the smartwatch.

Earlier today, Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 6. The new smartwatch’s standout feature is the inclusion of blood oxygen monitoring. However, for folks who want real-time elevation tracking, the always-on altimeter is for you. The new always-on, more power-efficient barometric altimeter works with GPS and nearby Wi-Fi networks to provide real-time elevation all day long.

With this feature, Apple Watch Series 6 owners will have their elevation changes, even the smallest ones above ground level, tracked by the smartwatch. All of this, up and down, up to the measurement of 1 foot. Apple is even including a new watch face complication or workout metric. You can see that in the image at the top of this article.

This new feature will be present in the Apple Watch Series 6 at launch.
