Twitter is testing a new splash screen and customizable app icons

Apple has made it possible for developers to include various iOS and iPadOS app icon designs for users to choose from for quite some time now, and it looks like Twitter may be taking advantage of the feature at some point in the future.

That’s based on a report from 9to5Mac, which cites the latest survey that Twitter has sent out to folks in its Insiders program. The survey’s goal is to gather feedback regarding Twitter’s current app icon design, and includes a selection of other options that users might prefer more. The image at the top of this article includes the other app icon designs, and depending on the feedback Twitter receives, these new icon designs could be offered within the app for users to choose.

Please take a look at the app icon design below. This is an example of a Twitter app icon that would be shown on your phone screen. We’d like to ask you a few questions about this design.

While the original report does say it’s possible Twitter could include all of these options for the user, giving them a bit more customization over the app’s icon on their Home screen, it’s also possible that Twitter ends up just going with the one that receives the best feedback and opting to change the app icon to that. Or, Twitter could scrap the whole thing and stick with the now standard app icon and call it a day.

There’s no word on when the folks at Twitter will make a decision, but 2020 could be the year the app gets a refreshed app icon.

Meanwhile, Twitter also appears to be testing a new splash screen for when you tap on the icon to launch the app on iOS and iPadOS. Is that Baby Yoda from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian in there?

What do you think of those Twitter app icon designs, and the new splash screen? Which of the app icons would you put on your Home screen if given the chance?
