Epic Games officially extends chapter 2, season 2 of “Fortnite” into June

Epic Games announced today that it’s extending the second season of the second chapter of its “Fortnite Battle Royale” mobile game into June, meaning you’ll have to wait a bit longer for chapter 2, season 3 of the popular battle royale title than originally anticipated.

According to the blog post:

We’re extending Chapter 2 – Season 2 of “Fortnite” beyond the original April 30 date. Our plan is to launch Chapter 2 – Season 3 on June 4.

Epic didn’t give a reason for the extension, but the current COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and stay-at-home orders may have something to do with the company’s decision.

This is the second extension for the game’s seasonal model since the launch of the second chapter last November following the black hole event. Looking at it from a brighter perspective, you now have an extra 30 days to complete this season’s Battle Pass.

Epic wants people to know it’s working on cool new content that will be released before the third seasons drops. Promising “multiple game updates”, the company mentioned enhancements like new challenges, bonus XP and “a couple more surprises up our sleeve”.

Chapter two, season one of “Fortnite” ran for almost four months, from October 2019 and into February 2020. According to The Verge, Epic is maintaining the game “from home”. The publication speculates that COVID-19 has “put a pause on any plans” to host tournaments or live competitions of any kind “well into the future.”
